Bandana Day 2016!

I am posting this much later than I’d hoped to… had some technical issues earlier with my internet sucking. BUT you do still have a bit four hours left to Hair Fair 2016, so you’re not too late to go grab some of the amazing releases, gifts and your very own Bandana Day bandana. Mine was created by the sweet and talented Izzie Button. Isn’t it adorable? Remember, the people who take the time to do these bandanas are giving their time and proceeds entirely to Wigs For Kids. It’s truly a great cause, and something I am always honored to participate in as a blogger. My necklace is coming to FaMESHed tomorrow and is by Cae. My Catwa mesh head Destiny and DeeTaleZ applier Patricia will both available at the Mesh Body Addicts Fair, also starting tomorrow. My lashes are Catwa appliers, which are also from Izzie’s. They were a recent Fifty Linden Friday item, but trust me… they’re worth paying full price for if you missed them!

Bandana Day 2016

My cute bikini top is another in Neve’s recently released swimwear collection, and my sexy jean shorts are from Just Because. The adorable collie pup by my side is available at The Epiphany, from Jian. The flip flops are by Reign, and as of this posting they are still only L$75 at the mainstore. Finally, I am wearing the newly updated Freya body from Belleza. All of the bodies – Freya, Venus and Isis – have been newly updated. I’m going to link to some YouTube videos created by the Belleza team below that explains the updates. But there’s also a fabulous post about it on the Mesh Body Addicts website!

Boardwalk Treat

Possibly the most exciting thing for many of you will be that you can now buy JUST the body you want. While the fatpack is still available, each body is also being sold individually. Definitely watch the first video if you’re interested in just one body type. It helps to explain it all really well. The new hud is really slick and sleek, and you can get further detail on that in the second video.

I stand for peace…

When I first heard of the “I stand for peace” challenge presented by The White Canvas Gallery, I have to admit… my tendency towards cynicism won over. My first, honest thought? I’d love to stand for peace, but my legs are going to get awfully tired. But being me is complicated. Because even though I can be cynical (though I tend to prefer to think I’m just realistic), I can also be idealistic. So, I have said it before and I’ll say it now: I’m a realistic idealist. I can recognize when I’m being idealistic, but I refuse to give up the idea that there’s a place for idealism in this world.

I really like this quote, and not just because I consider Sara Teasdale to be one of the most underrated poets in history.

I make the most of all that comes and the least of all that goes. ~Sara Teasdale

I like to think I manage to do this most of the time. My life has been interesting and difficult. Full of love, but also challenges. However, I like to believe that, when faced with hardships, I find a way to make the best of a bad situation. To find the proverbial silver lining. So, even though I fear that we’re living in a time that will face far more violence before we achieve anything akin to peace, I also think we can find ways to look for peace from within, to take strength from the stories of others; of those who survive, of those who saved, of those who died so others might live. We can see the beauty that is always here, and remember the wise words of Dumbledore (via JK Rowling): Happiness can be found even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light.

It seemed fitting to blog this challenge using one of the gorgeous hairs you can find at Hair Fair 2016. I feel that this event is an example of the best of humanity, of the goodness and love that exists in this world, and I mean the real one as well as our virtual one. Because, after all, this event benefits real life children. Also appropriate, I felt, was to use something currently available at The Epiphany – these adorable butterflies from Cubic Cherry Creations. For if ever the world needed another epiphany, the time would be now.

My hair is from Mina. I loved the windblown feel of this hair, and I’ve always been a huge fan of Mina’s red shades. My adorable capri pants are by Just Because for N21 and I’m wearing the N21 exclusive color, which will not be available when the event ends! The tank top I’m wearing is one of Neve’s summer offerings. My sandals are from fri.day, and fri.day has moved to a new location, so be sure to update your LM!

I stand for peace

Now I have to talk about this gorgeous new mesh head from Catwa. Bibi has such a sweet, youthful face. It felt perfect for this dreamy, peaceful look I wanted. I paired it with Glam Affair’s Gabriela applier, which is part of the Gacha Guardians event. If you’ve been looking for a mesh head with a young, soft vibe, definitely go demo this one. Bibi is a basic head, which means you can get the static version of it for just $L900. You can check out this image, which explains all of the various options available on Catwa heads.

Sweet Bibi

If you haven’t done the “I stand for peace” challenge yet, consider it. It’s simple, but powerful. And I was nominated by the lovely Saffie to do it, so really… I had to.

Bubbly

This is the first of my Hair Fair 2016 posts. This fabulous event is open, and of course part of the proceeds from every sale will go to Wigs For Kids. It’s a great cause, with a ton of hair designers. There’s something to suit everyone’s tastes there, so definitely check it out. You can find all of the information you need, including a map, on the official blog. I’m wearing one of ISON’s lovely releases – Marie – in these photos. I’m also wearing one of Catwa’s newer head releases, Dyana, with the Bambi applier that Pink Fuel released for it at Kawaii Project.

starts in my toes and I crinkle my nose

My cute little dress is from Blueberry, and the strappy, sexy heels I’m wearing are from Glamistry. This adorable pose, which comes with the bubbles prop you see, is from Infiniti and is available at The Season’s Story. I’m using the Trompe Loleil Zohra Oasis, which is available at the current round of Uber. You have a few more days before this round closes and there are lots of awesome items there, so go check it out.

Here’s a better look at the shoes! The BBQ set you see in all three pics is from Dynasty’s release for The Epiphany. It’s a super cute set, and one of many amazing things you can find at this round of the event!

Finally, here’s the YouTube video that inspired two of the titles of these pics.

Over the rainbow

The Pulse Fundraiser is winding down. It will close in just under 24 hours, so if you haven’t gone yet, hurry! If you’re not sure what I am talking about, this fundraiser is benefitting the families and victims of the horrific incident that took place last month at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando. There are a ton of fabulous designers participating, not to mention auction boards where you can bid on some fabulous people and/or prizes.

I wanted to do something sparkly, cheerful and dreamy. So I went to StoryBrooke Gardens and, just by chance, found this giant book. And the quote on the page… “hope springs eternal.” It just seemed perfect. I’m the odd mix of realist and idealist. I often say I’m a realistic idealist. I want to believe change is possible, that things can be different. That the world, as ugly as it can be, is also still full of so much that is beautiful and good. And when I see the SL community come together for an event like this, it’s just that much easier for me to hold on to that hope.

I’m wearing a lot of items you can find at the event. My hair is from Exile, the dress is Valentina E. The body glitter and bracelet are both Izzie’s. My shoes are Reign. The adorable star “freckles” are Vile Cult.

Over The Rainbow

In this pic, you can better see the cute star tattoos, along with the beautiful applier Glam Affair released for Uber. Although this applier was designed with Annie in mind, I am wearing it with Alice here… and I think it’s pretty adorable!

Rainbow Sprinkles

Definitely be sure to run over to the Pulse Fundraiser before it ends. It’s worth it! You get to support a great cause while buying beautiful things. Or bidding on beautiful prizes/people!

PS. I apologize if there are any typos in here I missed. It’s now 2:30 am and I’m sleepy. 😛

Rack ’em up!

I really wanted a t-shirt type dress because of Thomas Rhett’s song T-shirt. I mentioned that to Annie Melson, the talented creator behind Just Because and she liked the idea enough to do it! It’s called the Zoe T-Shirt Dress and it’s really freakin’ cute, as you’ll see below. I paired it with the special edition Harper clogs fri.day released for the Pulse Fundraiser. If you haven’t heard about this yet, it’s a great event to raise money to help the victims from the horrific shooting that took place in Orlando last month. Some really amazing designers have come together to donate their talent to help raise money. On top of that, there are auction boards… but more about that in just a minute. I wandered over to Blithe and found this really awesome scene. It was sort of dark and moody and sexy and it suited my mood and my outfit perfectly, I felt. I hopped up on the pool table, and while this table (from Apple Fall) does have built in poses, I decided to use a recent release from Infiniti for the pic instead.

Rack 'em up

My adorable hair is from Truth and it includes a version with a cat ears headband that’s just cute as hell. You can find it at The Fantasy Collective’s special After Dark round through July 15th. I’m wearing one of Catwa’s more recent mesh head releases, Helena. I love this face so much, and DeeTaleZ created an applier for it that is so beautiful it’s actually why I bought the head! The applier is called Fable. I have a LOT of mesh heads and appliers at this point, but this is probably my favorite combination yet. My necklace is from Cae’s current FaMESHed release, and it’s really lovely. I decided to mix up the metals and am wearing a combo of silver and rose gold. There’s also a choker that has gems and earrings available to go with this.

Scarlet Hustler

Okay, so now about the Pulse auction boards. There are a bunch of talented creators and photographers, along with some date boards… you can win some time with someone or win some amazing prizes. Like Blueberry fatpacks for life. It’s definitely worth checking out. Yours truly even has a board, and if you bid on me and win you’ll get early access to Whimsical, before it’s open to the public for a lag free shopping experience. I’ll also do your profile picture, and give you L$2500 in store credit at Repose, the pose store I co-own with my husband. And Sanura Snowpaw, who owns Somnia, generously added L$2500 in store credit to my board. It’s all for a good cause… 100% of the proceeds go to the fund set up by Equality Florida. So even if you don’t bid on me, consider checking out the boards and bidding on someone else!

And now, I’ll leave you with this…

The final hours of Fantasy Faire 2016!

Fantasy Faire 2016 is coming to an end today, so if you haven’t been yet, hurry! Today I’ll give you a quick tour of the final five of the fourteen total sims.

First up is OtherWorld, sponsored by Cerridwen’s Cauldron. This sim is the home of the Literary Festival.

OtherWorld sponsored by Cerridwen's Cauldron

Next, Sapphire Mirror Lake, which is the arts and entertainment venue. On this sim, you’ll find two art galleries. One is below the water, so be sure to dive in to explore! Read more about it here.

Sapphire Mirror Lake - Arts and Entertainment Sim

Serenity is next on the tour. This sim is so lovely, with all the steps down to the water (or up from it, if you prefer). Here’s a list of stores you’ll find on Serenity, which is sponsored by The NeoVictoria Project.

Serenity Sponsored by the NeoVictoria Project

Tinker’s Hollow made me think of a place where Santa’s elves might vacation in the off season when they’re not needed at the North Pole! Sponsored (appropriately) by Epic Toy Factory, you’ll find the list of stores featured here.

And last, but certainly not least, is Twilight Illusion, sponsored by Merchants of Dreams. Here’s the complete list of stores on Twilight Illusion.

As I was sitting here writing this, my mom called to tell me that someone I used to babysit for who is only 27, with two little children of her own, has colon cancer. And this is just another reminder to me of how vitally important these Relay For Life events are. Because no one should have to live with this. This poor young woman lost her father to cancer several years back. She has a toddler and an infant. It’s just heartbreaking. She’s undergoing treatment, and we’re not sure what her prognosis is, but no one should go through this. And far, far too many people do. So it was yet another very sad reminder of why I relay. 😦

Fantasy Faire 2016

Fantasy Faire 2016 is open and runs through May 5th. This event supports Relay For Life, which if you’re not familiar helps to raise money for cancer research. But it’s also a celebration of those who’ve been through cancer and lived to share their stories and a time to remember those whose battles could not be won with our still far too limited treatment options. Fantasy Faire features so many fabulous designers, with products for sale to help raise funds, and those creators have, as usual, outdone themselves with both their talent and generosity in giving to this great cause.

But the stars of Fantasy Faire each year are the amazing builds. This year there are fourteen sims in total. FOURTEEN. It’s crazy! There are ten shopping sims, an entertainment sim, a literary sim, a sim that commemorates and celebrates those lost and, of course, The Fairelands Junction, which is your portal to all of the other sims.

I took pics on all sims, and my goal is to share all fourteen pics with you. I have four to share right now.

First, sponsored by Arcadia, is Blackmoor. Blackmoor is dramatic and darkly mysterious and beautiful. I’ll be blogging a bit more of what I’m wearing in a future post, but my rain boots and umbrella are both Decoy and available at The Epiphany, as is the dress from Luas. If you click here to go to the official Fantasy Faire blog, you can see a completely list of stores you’ll find on Blackmoor.

Blackmoor Sponsored by Arcadia

Breeze, sponsored by Solarium, is colorful and really, really cute. It has a feel of being something out of a children’s book (at least to me). Here’s a link to the list of stores to be found on Breeze.

Breeze sponsored by Solarium

Sponsored by KittyCatS, I think Bright Haven is the sim where I’d most like to live! The cheerful, bright little cottages and the beautiful waterfront just makes it so quaint and charming. Here you’ll find the list of stores located on Bright Haven.

Bright Haven sponsored by KittyCatS

And finally, for today, Dangarnon. Sponsored by Death Row Designs, this darkly beautiful sim speaks (to me) of a bygone era. Click here for a complete list of stores on Dangarnon.

Dangarnon sponsored by Death Row Designs

For all of the information you’ll need to navigate this large event, I highly recommend going through the official Fantasy Faire website. And if you’re not into fantasy, but still want to help the cause, you will find plenty of donation kiosks throughout the sims to do just that!

The Forgotten Princess

This is a story blog. Credits and details will follow the story. Warning, it’s a bit of a sad tale.

In a legend about a far away land called Lucica, there was a beautiful queen who had ruled her kingdom peacefully with grace and dignity for more than two decades. Queen Justina had lost her husband ten years prior, and their daughter, Mairwen was about to come of age and suitors had begun to seek her hand in marriage. A widowed king from a neighboring kingdom desperately wanted to marry the beautiful Mairwen. Mairwen, however, was determined to marry for love, not convenience. She did not like King Amon, and did not wish to be his Queen. Beyond this, as her mother’s only heir, she wanted to remain in her own kingdom, and King Amon would have taken her to his kingdom to become the stepmother for his young daughter Amme. The shallow young Amme did not like Mairwen, as she was jealous of her would-be stepmother’s beauty, and she did all she could to poison her father’s heart against Mairwen.

But Mairwen paid little attention to Amon or Amee, for Mairwen’s rebellious heart had fallen in love with a commoner named Xander. Xander’s parents had died when he was just 13, leaving him the head of house for his five younger siblings. Xander rose to the challenge, becoming a blacksmith’s apprentice while raising his brothers and sisters. When he and Mairwen met, it was immediately obvious they shared a mutual attraction, but not one based on appearances. No, Mairwen admired the young man who was raising his siblings. She felt his strength of character would someday make him a wonderful king. Xander admired Mairwen’s kindness towards everyone, regardless of their class or status in Lucica. She treated him no differently than anyone else, and while he saw her outer beauty, it was the inner beauty that found him falling in love with the Princess he dared not believe he could ever call his wife. But Mairwen’s mind – and heart – was set on Xander, and she begged Justina for a special exception to the law that stated she must marry royalty. Justina made no promises, but she loved her daughter dearly, and trusted her instincts. She agreed to meet young Xander, and saw in him what her fiery daughter did, and agreed to the union.

Mairwen and Xander’s wedding day arrived, and in the castle by the sea, dawn arrived with a gentle drizzle that faded to reveal the most beautiful rainbow. Justina told Mairwen this was a sign of great fortune, and evidence that her union would be blessed. She did not wish to ruin her daughter’s wedding day with sorrowful news, but she had been told just the day before that her remaining time was counted in mere months. She trusted Xander to care for her daughter, and she knew Mairwen’s good nature and powerful desire to do what was right would leave Lucica in good hands. The wedding was beautiful, with hundreds of white doves released as Xander and Mairwen shared their first kiss as husband and wife.

Unbeknownst to all, King Amon was not prepared to let Mairwen go so easily. Despite his daughter’s protests, he was determined to have her as his. But then Princess Amme heard that Mairwen was to marry a commoner, and knowing her father’s disgust and disregard for common folk, brought this news to him gleefully, for she believed it would finally free her father of his obsession. Amme judged wrong, however. It merely enraged Amon, while fueling his obsession with the beautiful Princess Mairwen.

Amon turned to a dark sorceress to exact revenge on Mairwen and her kingdom. Endora was delighted to help, but her assistance came at a steep price. Amon must sacrifice his only child, and give her to the evil Endora. Amon did not hesitate, and sent his daughter Amme to Endora. Amme was spoiled and selfish, but she also loved her father and his betrayal brought her to tears… the first genuine tears she’d ever cried in her short life. Endora knew this would happen, and bottled the tears carefully. She then locked Amme in a dark dungeon, forcing the child to live out her days without sunlight, food or fresh water. Amme died of loneliness and heartbreak a mere month after her father’s guards had delivered her to the clutches of the evil witch.

Meanwhile, Endora bided her time. She waited for Justina’s illness to worsen, and then cursed the kingdom of Lucica with an outbreak of a sickness the likes of which no one had before seen, using a potion concocted with the tears of Princess Amme. The apothecaries were helpless to find a treatment, let alone a cure. Before long, the illness spread to the castle, though oddly neither Princess Mairwen or her new Prince became ill. But the cursed affliction hit the already weakened Justina, and she was in agonizing pain. Mairwen sat beside her mother, wiping her brow of the fever’s sweat and whispering quiet words of comfort. She told her mother of the blessed news she’d just received. Mairwen was with child. Justina smiled weakly at this news, then took her final breath.

Mairwen’s grief was overwhelming, but she thought of Xander, of how at such a young age he had to take over as both mother and father and sole provider for his five siblings (all of whom now resided in the castle). She knew Lucica and her people needed her strength, so with great sorrow she announced the death of her mother and it was decreed her coronation should take place the next morning. She dressed in the beautiful green gown that her mother had worn on her own coronation day. The gown glittered in the sunlight, shimmering like the waves crashing on the rocks beyond the castle walls.

The Forgotten Princess

Endora did not understand why her spell didn’t work on Xander or Mairwen. Her magic had never failed before, and though the people of Lucica struggled in vain to fight against the magical illness, Endora’s anger flared. In a furious fit of rage, she used her power to break the tower off the castle just as the crowds were to celebrate Mairwen’s coronation. She forced the tower far out to sea, well beyond the reach of the best of the kingdom’s small naval fleet. But the power required for this spell left Endora weak, and Xander forced the devious King Amon to reveal the source of both his wife’s banishment and the kingdom’s horrible affliction. He sought Endora out at great peril and, using the silver, fire forged blade that had belonged to Mairwen’s father King Edmund, Xander stabbed the evil sorceress through her heart. Immediately, the illness afflicting the people of Lucica vanished, and though many lives had been lost, those still suffering were returned to good health.

But nothing could bring back his fair Mairwen. Xander searched for her himself, for years. His military captains searched. But Mairwen’s turret was nowhere to be found. Mairwen could not understand what had happened, and though she believed Xander would never leave her or their unborn child to die, she could no longer fight the feelings of abandonment after months of isolation. She gave birth alone, to a baby boy she called Edmund Xander, in honor of her father and husband. She wrapped the babe in the train of her gown, and knowing she could not possibly hope to keep him alive, called upon sea birds to take him back to Lucica with a note attached, written in her own blood, that simply read, please care for our son… all my love, Mairwen. As the birds carried her child away to safety, she cried out in pain and sorrow; a princess lost to the sea.

Abandoned

Despite her certainty that she’d been forgotten and abandoned, her people did not forget her. Xander raised Prince Edmund, until their son was old enough to be crowned King, and Edmund ruled with the same wisdom and kindness as his grandmother before him. Mairwen’s bravery and strength became a legend passed down through generations, and she became the patron saint to sailors, and Lucica was renamed Mairwen in her memory. But the poor princess could never know how beloved she was, how mourned. She died alone in her turret, a year to the day after being forced from her home by the evil Endora’s violent ire.

Still, it is said that even today, thousands of years later, sailors hear her cries of anguish as they sail past the turret in the sea. Yet the townsfolk of Mairwen live peacefully, and their flag, which features two white doves flying over a beautiful rainbow, waves in the gentle sea breezes over the town square.

The End.

This entire post and story was born of inspiration that struck when I saw the incredible Kimbra gown Just Because released for Uber. Uber’s theme this round is Etheral and I love it. My LeLutka applier is from Glam Affair and my hair is Truth’s release, both also from Uber. My gorgeous engagement/wedding ring combo is Cherish by Cae. As always, it includes a hud with multiple metal options, gem options and band options.

I also happened to buy this incredible prop from Exposeur. If you haven’t heard, Exposeur has an amazing sale going on, designed to raise fund to help RubyStarlight Writer’s ill kitties. You can see her Flickr post about that here. Suffice it to say, Ruby’s cats are dealing with medical issues, and she is trying to raise funds to help get them the care they need. Any pet owner knows this is the worst nightmare… fear for the life and health of your beloved baby. So please, if you’re able to, go buy out Ruby’s store. This incredible prop set – along with many others – can currently be bought for just L$100, and they’re so detailed and well worth the money, plus you’ll be helping Chloe and Brookie, too. All regular poses and gachas are also on sale.
