The water understands

I love water. Maybe it’s from growing up on the East Coast (New Jersey), but for whatever reason I have always been drawn to it. In SL, I spent years living in the sky and desperately missed water, because in my opinion, the Linden water is one of the most beautiful parts of SL. Now that I have a homestead to decorate at my whim, water is always a big part of my sim design. Still, for this post I decided I wanted to “travel” in SL and I took the opportunity to visit Vintage Lace. This new sim is open to the public, but also has 3 residences, so if you visit please be sure to respect the privacy of the sim’s tenants. I’m wearing a playful, sexy new sundress from Neve that you can snag at Mesh Body Addicts, which is open through March 31st. My sexy sandals are from Reign, a recent release that includes 3 different styles of ribbons (ankle, shown here, knee high and thigh high). My bracelets are by Cae and are at Cosmopolitan until March 26th. I am wearing SLink’s Hourglass body with the highly anticipated, newly updated SLink hands, which are now bento compatible! The new Dynamic hands will replace your old hands, if you so choose. You can learn more on the official SLink blog post about this exciting release! I’m also using FATE’s bento hand poser, which is how I got my crossed fingers. It’s so much fun to have this added flexibility!

Monochrome Moonlight

This hair is a new release from Magika. I’ve loved Sabina Gully’s work for years, so whenever she releases something new I get pretty excited. The beautiful Catwa applier I have on is Cintia, new from [theSkinnery] and available at Ultra through the end of the month. It’s really lovely, and again it’s a skin that makes me feel a bit like a pixie. I added Izzie’s beauty mole applier and also Izzie’s natural crease set with eyeliner. I love how it helps define the waterline.

The water understands

The title of this post comes from a poem by Ralph Waldo Emerson.

Meet Devon

[TheSkinnery] is participating in the annual Skin Fair with a new release for Catwa’s bento heads. I fell in love with this face immediately. Devon is so impish and adorable, and I knew it would be the perfect skin for a bit of a whimsical, fantasy themed post. I visited StoryBrooke Gardens to shoot these pics. It’s a lovely place for spring pics. Plus, if you join the Baja Norte group (the sims are owned by the same person, Lauren Bentham) you can rezz, too! My eyes are also from [TheSkinnery], from the Palermo collection which you can find in the mainstore. I liked how they matched the colors in the wings (my fairy outfit is from Decoy, more on that to come!). But seriously, look at this face. Isn’t it super cute? I love the lips in particular, but all of it is just lovely. I’m also wearing one of the lipglosses, sold separately for it at Skin Fair. I have it on my own shape on Catwa’s Kimberly head. It may not look remotely the same on different heads or shapes, so definitely demo first! My stunning necklace and matching earrings by Cae are at the current round of FaMESHed and match the shoes you’ll see in the next pic. Also, you get 3 different earring styles with this set (sold together with the necklace or individually).

Devon

My vines, bikini and (bento!) wings are courtesy of Decoy’s Forest Fae gacha. Please note that this was a recent event release and is not yet in the Mainstore, but should be soon. My gorgeous shoes are the new collaboration between Gos and Cae, available at FaMESHed and designed to match the necklace and earrings you saw in the previous photo.

Morning Fairy

Here’s a closeup of those shoes, unedited, to show the intricate detail in the jewels. Normally in a post where I am a fairy, I’d go barefoot. But if ever there were shoes suitable for a spring fae? These are them (click the image to see it larger)!

Electric Youth

I feel like the era of my tweens and early teens (aka late 80s/early 90s) is suddenly super popular again. From the recent debut of the Rewind event, with it’s 90’s theme, to some of the fun color combos at various events (like Uber), it just feels a bit surreal.

So maybe it’s not surprising that I found myself feeling a big nostalgic, and that before long said nostalgia led me to listen to Electric Youth, which came out in 1989. This iconic Debbie Gibson album inspired a line of cosmetics and a fragrance, all of which I – naturally – had. See, I was fascinated by Debbie Gibson. She wrote all of the songs on her album, and she also produced six of the ten tracks on the album entirely on her own. It was only with her first album that I had learned a strange lesson… not all singers are songwriters. Up until Out of the Blue got a lot of attention for having been written by a 16 year-old, it never dawned on me that singers didn’t also write their song lyrics or music. This is undoubtedly the result of being a songwriter’s daughter; my dad was in bands my entire childhood, and they wrote everything they did that wasn’t a cover and my dad was the primary lyricist. So it kind of never occurred to me that other people didn’t write their own songs.

At any rate, this revelation made Debbie Gibson a hero of mine. I was six years younger than her, but she was doing amazing things. Then she became Eponine in Les Mis (“On My Own” was “my” song; I sang it in 8th grade and related deeply to it), and that just sealed it for me. Debbie Gibson was totally amazing.

So, this was my tribute to that time in my life… a skort (!) and chunky plastic ring from Decoy, a cropped t-shirt with the word “dazed” from Tee*Fy at N21, some curly pigtails and blunt bangs, brand new from Truth and available at the current round of Uber. Uber has a brand new layout to help make shopping easier., and a great big bubble of pink gum, thanks to Catwa. Oh, and the perfect 90s-esque photo backdrop courtesy of Mons! I swear I know someone with framed prints that looked like this wall.

Pop Sugar

I just got the Catwa (bento) Kimberly head, as a birthday gift from a dear friend. I chose Kimberly over Catya and Lilo, Catwa’s other two heads (another one, Lona, is either newly out or about to be released) neither of which felt very “me,” even with shape changes. But Kimberly does! It’s very cute and works well with fuller lips and larger eyes. I am featuring some items from the February Powder Pack here. This skin applier is Kelly, from Amara. I wasn’t familiar with Amara but I loved this applier. That’s one of the fun things about these subscription boxes. You get to try out some stores you don’t know! I’m wearing the Powder Pack eyeliner/shadow by DeeTaleZ, which was tintable, so I made it this very 90s teal shade to match my hair. And the lipgloss is from Pink Fuel’s Powder Pack release. My lashes are also from Powder Pack, by Bold & Beauty. I had some trouble adjusting mesh eyes to fit in my Catwa head (and unlike the LeLutka heads, you must use mesh eyes). While Catwa’s heads come with rigged eyes, I wanted more options. Ultimately, the eyes I found easiest to adjust to my shape were from theSkinnery’s Palermo collection. These also have an OMEGA applier version, as well as system eyes. Oh and the adorable moles are another Powder Pack release, from okbye!

Electric Youth

If you missed the Powder Pack you can buy it later, but please note that the original price is $L1500 and after the price is L$3000 so it’s worth it if you love makeup and skins! Plus, there is going to be a LeLutka version starting later this month… now I just have to figure out which version I want! Gah!

Colder Weather

Though I’ve already changed my homestead over to spring, the truth is spring in Colorado, especially at 9,000 feet in the Rockies, often arrives late. However, this year it’s been unseasonably warm for weeks and just in the past few days have we returned to more normal February temperatures (for which I am grateful, as warmer and dry are not good for wildfire season).

If you’re not quite ready to let go of winter yourself this gorgeous coat from Neve might be just what you need to keep warm! I thought this coat would be a great match for the new pencil skirts release by Just Because at the Mainstore. These skirts have plain and lace options. You can also do lace on just the outer panels of the skirt. It was overly complicated with the plaid coat, but it’s truly lovely so do check these out! My adorable shoes are from fri.day and you can get them at Kustom9 through March 10th. I love the bows and the straps. I’m a sucker for any sort of Mary Jane type shoe, although these are called Elsie Janes!

Spring In Her Step

Now, I had heard a rumor… maybe you’ve heard it, too. But the rumor was that Mallory Cowen of LAQ would soon be releasing a Bento mesh head. I decided to ask Mallory and she has confirmed that this is true! I’m super excited about this because I truly loved both of the heads she released before Bento hit the grid. I don’t know when the new head is being released, but I am confident it will be stunning!

I’m wearing Maxine with the Sophia applier in these pics. If you’re not waiting for Bento and want a new head, I definitely recommend trying one of LAQ’s. They’re both lovely. I am wearing the new Tokyo eyes released at Izzie’s. These come with system eyes, mesh eyes and Catwa appliers. I went for a bit of heterochromia and paired one Amber eye with one Teal! I am really fussy about the eyes I wear in SL, but I love these so much. They’re different for me, but in a good way for sure! Incidentally, I also shot both of these pics on the Izzie’s sim. It’s still winter, but not sure how much longer that will be the case. The Fiore necklace by Cae is at Whimsical through March 3rd. There are also matching earrings (not shown here) and you can buy the set or the individual pieces.

Paisley Love

I absolutely love all things paisley. In fact, in RL we just recently bought this paisley print rug to put at our front entrance. So when I saw that one of the limited edition Love collection kitties from KittyCatS was PAISLEY I knew I’d fall in love… and I did!

I mean, look at these cuties! How can you not fall for them? From left to right, the fur patterns are called: Disarmed, Charmed, Hypnotized, Bewitched, Bothered, Bewildered. I seriously struggle to even pick a favorite pattern (but my love of purple has me leaning towards Charmed)!

Paisley Love Collection

I was also hoping to grab a snap of one of the kitties asleep with a toy, and I got lucky! This little sweetheart was sleeping with his teddy bear. The toys change, and you may see everything from a bear to a frog. They also frequently cuddle the toys. As babies, sometimes they sleep with a bottle! It’s utterly adorable, and just one more “attention to detail” aspect I love about these breedables. Also in this pic is the Rare wagon from the JIAN Love Pugs gacha at Gacha Garden (which closes on the 28th, so hurry and visit if you haven’t!).

Cat naps

This collection, along with the Painted Love collection from my previous blog post, is a limited edition and only available through March 3rd. So if you haven’t bought yours yet, hurry! You can grab them in world or on Marketplace.

KittyCatS Mainstore

Here are the individual Marketplace links. If you are unfamiliar with KittyCatS special collections, these work a bit like a gacha would. You can select the gender, but the fur pattern you get will be random.

The Lovers’ Cottage

I fell in love with the brand new bed Half-Deer released for Collabor88. I wanted to do a super dreamy, frilly Valentine’s type cottage, and the bed was perfect for the room. The Garden Bard Abode from Trompe Loeil was small enough to be cozy for this scene, but has so many windows it would be bright and cheery, too. The calendar is from Pixel Mode, the kitty bed in the corner is from Alouette, the large rug in front of the bed is from brocante and everything else is Half-Deer!

Lovers Cottage

I’m featuring the new Painted Love Collection cats from KittyCatS in this post. If you don’t know KittyCatS, they are breedables (though you can opt to not breed, too) that are truly the best on the grid in my opinion. The KittyCatS team provides the best customer service, and there’s a reason they’ve been around – and relevant – for six long years now! Their website is a great resource if you’re interested in them. This is one of two special collections of kitties that you can buy through March 3rd. My personal favorite in this collection is called Cupid Disarmed. I love the little blue toe pads against the chocolate coloring of this kitten’s feets! His playmate is Birth of Venus, and in the background sleeping in the kitty bed from Alouette you can see two of the Paisley Love kittens. I’m doing a post featuring them next week, so stay tuned for that. But in the meantime, at the end of this post I will share the ad so you can see how cute they are!

Kitten Love

Below you can get a closer look at all five of the kitties available in this collection. From right to left, they are Cupid Disarmed, The Fisherman & The Siren, The Kiss, In Bed The Kiss and Birth of Venus.

Just Darling

Just Because released this utterly gorgeous dress for The Liaison Collaborative. I’m not even biased because it’s called Jessica (my RL name lol), I swear! It’s just really stunning and the sparkles are incredible. I had a hard time picking a color, but ultimately went with the Rose Gold for this post. I paired it with Cae’s new Darling necklace, earrings and bracelet set you can grab at FaMESHed. My hair is Christine from Doe and you can grab it at Memento Mori. I love this style because it’s so versatile. It’s cute, but with the detailed braids and waves in the ponytail, it also manages to be very elegant. I’m also wearing the Love Potion particle hearts that Cole’s Corner has out at The Coven! I’m wearing “pure” but they come in three different colors, including black for those of you who may not be feeling very Valentine’s-y or pure. 😉

Spring Romance

I had to get the new(ish) applier Izzie’s released for the LeLutka Simone bento head. It’s soft and pretty and the price tag of $L599 is amazing, especially for what Izzie gives you. You get six each of eye makeup and lipstick options, plus freckles, moles or freckles & moles, and a wide range of eyebrow colors. I also wanted to show you one of the new Pink Fuel Fresh Lip Tints. These are so awesome. Each color has 5 options. One is full coverage, then there’s 75%, 50% and 25% opacity versions. Additionally you can tweak any of these with the LeLutka hud to get it even more custom (which I did in the pic below… I started at 50% and lowered it a bit). The fifth option is the dolly version, which is always adorable. My eyes are another pair of Buzzeri’s Okina eyes from The Epiphany. I’ve been a bit obsessed with this line! The Epiphany closes on the 15th, so be sure you scurry over to grab anything else you might want last minute!

Just Darling

I took both of these pics at the beautiful new Vintage Romance Bed & Breakfast sim. This sim is open to the public, but it does have rental homes. Please be courteous while exploring.

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Pastel Winter

Since my 2nd week in SL, I have been a redhead. I’ve done a handful of blog posts (often fantasy ones) where I used a different color, but even then I usually went for one with red highlights, if possible. But for some reason I found myself recently compelled to try something new. I decided that pastels would be pretty on this soft skin, with these lovely violet/rainbow eyes from Buzzeri (which are at The Epiphany). This is kind of a big deal for me, because I’m pretty sure that somewhere I’ve said – at least once – that Lucie would always be a redhead. And odds are, I’ll go back to red soon. But I want to experiment a bit first, I think.

In yesterday’s post, I mentioned that I would show you a closeup of Glam Affair’s pretty Hanna applier from Memento Mori. The important thing to know is that while there are a couple of pretty, more natural options on this skin, it also comes in versions with blood! Because Memento Mori, of course, is an event that has a macabre vibe. I do, however, appreciate that Aida Ewing did a couple of versions that were softer. The tone is Polar (which just so you know is NOT built into the Maitreya hud – I had to go get the appliers for it at the Mainstore. It’s also not built into the hud for Vista’s bento hands, so I have the Maitreya hands on here), which is so pale it’s kind of fantasy in and of itself, but this super soft makeup made it look so wintry and I fell in love with it. My hair is a recent Mainstore release from Truth, and my adorable Love Birds necklace is by Cae. It has two little leaves you can customize with initials of your choice (or you can hide one or both). Mine has an L and an R (for “Radagast,” my husband’s SL name). My lashes are Izzie’s for LeLutka, and I love all the different styles you get.

Time for a change

I also have to share the amazing Aurora dress that Annie Melson of Just Because released at Uber. The story behind this design is utterly adorable. Annie’s teenage daughter drew this design! So she made the dress in SL, and she’s paying her daughter for her work. Also, they plan to do more together! It’s just the loveliest story of encouraging her daughter’s dreams and being an awesome mom. I completely adore this. I have said it many times, but Annie is one of the kindest, most genuine people I’ve met in SL. And she’s so talented, a trait she and her daughter clearly share!

My shoes are Grace from Gos. If you missed it, he recently updated a bunch of his older shoes to be compatible with Maitreya and SLink bodies. I’ve always loved his work, so this made me super happy!

Never should’ve gone skiing

The second I saw this Halo leg brace that Hate This released for Memento Mori I had the idea of a post that involved a skiing injury. Maybe it’s because Crested Butte got so much snow recently, so skiing’s been a hot topic (hotter than usual) here in CO. Regardless, that was the concept. But I felt I needed something more, so I took to Marketplace where, lo and behold, I found this neck brace, which is coincidentally also done by Hate This! The crutches are also Hate This, and also a MP find. They are older and non-mesh but only L$25 so they were perfect for this post! Plus, like the leg brace and neck brace, they were color change, which meant I could make parts purple!

My skin applier is also at Memento Mori, and it’s from Glam Affair (another post with a close up of this skin is coming soon). My hair is a Truth VIP group gift called Gaea, and I like it quite a bit. I like short, cropped hairstyles and often feel there aren’t enough of them in SL! If you’re not in the Truth VIP group, it’s definitely well worth the one-time fee of $350 to join. This month’s gift included two different hairstyles! Check out Truth’s Flickr to keep up-to-date.

The One Cranky Bitch cocoa mug on my side table by brocante is one of the items in Reign’s Cozy V2 gacha for the current round of The Epiphany (if you click through to Flickr you can see the pic bigger). And really, can you blame me for feeling like a cranky bitch?! I shattered my poor leg and hurt my neck! Never going skiing again! 😉
