Festival!

With all the hype in the RL beauty world about “festival looks” I couldn’t resist doing on for SL. Also, it was the 20th anniversary of Lilith Fair, which I went to in 1997. My SL festival look is far more modern although there are some things that never go out of style (at least in my book), like strappy, flat sandals and long, flowing skirts. My skirt and top are both from Decoy and you can grab them at Collabor88. My sandals are by fri.day. They were at Summerfest, which has ended but should be in the Mainstore soon. My hair is Exile.

Blues Festival

I went to Lilith Fair with my then boyfriend, who wasn’t particularly memorable (or well, okay he was very memorable, but not for good reasons) but he did buy me tickets when I said I wanted them, so I have to give him credit for that. It was awesome. It was in Camden, NJ (which is not awesome, trust me) and we had seats on the lawn… which meant sitting on blankets. I won’t talk about the ways in which said guy embarrassed me that day (or others), but rather will focus on the epic entertainment spectacle I got to be a part of on that steamy Sunday afternoon/night.

We got rained on for awhile, but no one cared because we were having too much fun. Tracy Chapman was one of the performers that night, and although I sort of liked her, I was probably least looking forward to her performance… and she stole the damn show. No one was sitting during her set. She was unreal. Fiona Apple opened the mainstage and she was so newly popular at the time, and one of my favorites (Tidal is still an all time favorite of mine) and she was so natural and funny and I remember being in awe of her ease. She was about to officially open the show (there had been side stages all afternoon, one of which included Susanna Hoffs and how do you not LOVE hearing Eternal Flame performed live?) with all these major stars and she was just a teenager and it was pretty awesome.

So, in honor of this I decided to be bold and do some crazy lips… these dark blue lips are from [TheSkinnery], and are a group gift that work great with the new Alix skin released for LeLutka at Shiny Shabby. [TheSkinnery] recently updated their body appliers and the new ones are gorgeous (in the mainstore)… plus they’ve added three new skin tones. Here I am wearing the peach tone. I was also wearing one of the new tones in my last post.

Blushing Brides

A couple of months back I fell in love with this Eria gown from Dead Dollz. I knew immediately that it would make for a gorgeous wedding gown, but I eschewed the idea of white and went for the nude, as a play on the whole “blushing bride” thing. I’m wearing it with one of Truth’s recent releases. Like his other newer releases this one has a hairstyle HUD with several options. I love messy, curly updos. I’m wearing my Chloe LeLutka head with a Glam Affair applier that was part of June’s LeLutka Powder Pack. The bouquet and pose are part of Foxcity’s Flower bento pose set.

The Blush Bride

When I decided to do this blog post, I originally intended to use my malt. But since I was doing the post in June – LGBTQ+ Pride Month – I decided to use my falt instead. It’s something very important to me, and by complete coincidence I’m posting this on the anniversary of the SCOTUS ruling that overturned DOMA here in the US. It’s fairly well known that I’m bisexual. It worked out that my soul mate was a man, and getting married was not hard for us. But sometimes I can’t help but think, what if it had worked out differently? While I cannot imagine loving anyone other than my husband, there’s no denying that I benefit from living the life of a heterosexual. Since bisexuality isn’t visible, no one knows by looking at me. I never forget the privilege that I get because of that.

To keep with the non-traditional color scheme, I picked a formal gown from Just Because that felt beachy but still formal, in the shade antique. I’m wearing Ingenue’s Lisbet sandals that are at the current round of Collabor88. I picked a blue shade because I wanted to add just a touch of tradition but in a unique way! Her hair is also from Collabor88, by Exile.

Lost Little Lamb

Let’s just get three things out there. 1. I am so not a “neat freak (not that there’s anything wrong with being one… tbh I kind of wouldn’t mind a little of it myself!). 2. I have ADD, and so when I do get uh a bit obsessive about something, it can become an extreme thing. 3. Despite my general laissez faire attitude towards clutter, one place where the ADD takes over is my computer’s desktop. You can see what it looks like currently here, if you’re intrigued.

The shortcut on my desktop is there to remind me to try to learn to vlog by watching Berry’s tutorial on the topic. Once I actually try it, that shortcut will go. I hate shortcuts on my desktop. You may also notice that I have a folder called “SL Pics.” My blogging routine goes like this. I take photos and they save to my desktop. I pick the ones to edit, and the rest go in the trash. I edit the ones I’ve kept. They then stay on my desktop until I blog them, to help remind me to do it. Except, this time the photo Lucie Had A Little Lamb accidentally got put into my folder before I blogged it… which brings me to the title of this post. Poor little lamb was lost and never blogged. I realized it going through my photostream this morning and it was a major facepalms sort of moment. So, without further ado…

Just Darling

Just Because released this utterly gorgeous dress for The Liaison Collaborative. I’m not even biased because it’s called Jessica (my RL name lol), I swear! It’s just really stunning and the sparkles are incredible. I had a hard time picking a color, but ultimately went with the Rose Gold for this post. I paired it with Cae’s new Darling necklace, earrings and bracelet set you can grab at FaMESHed. My hair is Christine from Doe and you can grab it at Memento Mori. I love this style because it’s so versatile. It’s cute, but with the detailed braids and waves in the ponytail, it also manages to be very elegant. I’m also wearing the Love Potion particle hearts that Cole’s Corner has out at The Coven! I’m wearing “pure” but they come in three different colors, including black for those of you who may not be feeling very Valentine’s-y or pure. 😉

Spring Romance

I had to get the new(ish) applier Izzie’s released for the LeLutka Simone bento head. It’s soft and pretty and the price tag of $L599 is amazing, especially for what Izzie gives you. You get six each of eye makeup and lipstick options, plus freckles, moles or freckles & moles, and a wide range of eyebrow colors. I also wanted to show you one of the new Pink Fuel Fresh Lip Tints. These are so awesome. Each color has 5 options. One is full coverage, then there’s 75%, 50% and 25% opacity versions. Additionally you can tweak any of these with the LeLutka hud to get it even more custom (which I did in the pic below… I started at 50% and lowered it a bit). The fifth option is the dolly version, which is always adorable. My eyes are another pair of Buzzeri’s Okina eyes from The Epiphany. I’ve been a bit obsessed with this line! The Epiphany closes on the 15th, so be sure you scurry over to grab anything else you might want last minute!

Just Darling

I took both of these pics at the beautiful new Vintage Romance Bed & Breakfast sim. This sim is open to the public, but it does have rental homes. Please be courteous while exploring.

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Pastel Winter

Since my 2nd week in SL, I have been a redhead. I’ve done a handful of blog posts (often fantasy ones) where I used a different color, but even then I usually went for one with red highlights, if possible. But for some reason I found myself recently compelled to try something new. I decided that pastels would be pretty on this soft skin, with these lovely violet/rainbow eyes from Buzzeri (which are at The Epiphany). This is kind of a big deal for me, because I’m pretty sure that somewhere I’ve said – at least once – that Lucie would always be a redhead. And odds are, I’ll go back to red soon. But I want to experiment a bit first, I think.

In yesterday’s post, I mentioned that I would show you a closeup of Glam Affair’s pretty Hanna applier from Memento Mori. The important thing to know is that while there are a couple of pretty, more natural options on this skin, it also comes in versions with blood! Because Memento Mori, of course, is an event that has a macabre vibe. I do, however, appreciate that Aida Ewing did a couple of versions that were softer. The tone is Polar (which just so you know is NOT built into the Maitreya hud – I had to go get the appliers for it at the Mainstore. It’s also not built into the hud for Vista’s bento hands, so I have the Maitreya hands on here), which is so pale it’s kind of fantasy in and of itself, but this super soft makeup made it look so wintry and I fell in love with it. My hair is a recent Mainstore release from Truth, and my adorable Love Birds necklace is by Cae. It has two little leaves you can customize with initials of your choice (or you can hide one or both). Mine has an L and an R (for “Radagast,” my husband’s SL name). My lashes are Izzie’s for LeLutka, and I love all the different styles you get.

Time for a change

I also have to share the amazing Aurora dress that Annie Melson of Just Because released at Uber. The story behind this design is utterly adorable. Annie’s teenage daughter drew this design! So she made the dress in SL, and she’s paying her daughter for her work. Also, they plan to do more together! It’s just the loveliest story of encouraging her daughter’s dreams and being an awesome mom. I completely adore this. I have said it many times, but Annie is one of the kindest, most genuine people I’ve met in SL. And she’s so talented, a trait she and her daughter clearly share!

My shoes are Grace from Gos. If you missed it, he recently updated a bunch of his older shoes to be compatible with Maitreya and SLink bodies. I’ve always loved his work, so this made me super happy!

Bird Watching

The second I saw this adorable prop that oOo Studio released for The Seasons Story I knew I had to grab it. It’s a little vignette and it’s so cute. I decided to watch some cute little birds out the window while wearing my owl print Cupcake leggings from Blueberry. These leggings have the most amazing butt… seriously. This pic even got invited to a group on Flickr called Super butts of SL, and I was so proud. I feel like my butt needs a cape now. Anyway, back to the leggings… I fatpacked them (or really a friend sent them to me as a gift, to be accurate about it) and Blueberry recently added an upgrade to the fatpack that included something like 50 additional prints. It’s INSANE and totally well worth the investment if you’re big on leggings! I paired the leggings with boots from Just Because and a cute cropped sweater from Neve. I felt like I need a bird watching pal, so I rezzed a little kitten from JIAN.

Bird Watching

My hair is Ari from Truth, and this comes with a version without bangs but I’ve always loved straight, blunt bangs so they were a must for me! I did this second picture on January 20th, after seeing Hextraordinary’s adorable Courting Candle release for Fifty Linden Fridays. I thought if ever there was a day that we needed a little extra light in the world, it was the day Trump was inaugurated. My skin is a new release from Pink Fuel, Sabine. It has a bento version for the Catya head from Catwa, but I don’t have that head so I’m wearing the non-bento version on Dyana. I think it’s adorable, and as always it comes with so many options. Mochi really gives you so much for your money with her appliers/skins! My eyes are new from Buzzeri, and can be found at The Epiphany. I’m wearing the rare Storm shade, but all of them are lovely. I am also using the Vista bento hands in these pics.

Tumble in the hay

The title of this post is inspired by the stunning Tumble head from Catwa. I want to say this is a “new” release, but with how quickly she’s been releasing gorgeous new heads, it’s not that new anymore! So we’ll call it a “recent” release instead. What I love about Tumble is that it has this elegance and sophistication to it. Clean lines, smaller eyes than some of her more recent heads, a lovely nose… it feels very mature. And it works well with so many of the appliers I’ve tried it with so far! In this pic I am wearing Merry from DeeTaleZ in Nordic, and I think it lends a bit of soft sweetness to this face. I’m also wearing one of Exile’s two new releases for the current round of Collabor88.

Tumble in the hay

My cute top is also at Collabor88, from Blueberry. It comes in a wide variety of colors and the cropped tank underneath can be turned off and recolored, too, via the HUD. My comfy cords are new from Neve, and there are four color options. You can also hide the belt. You’ll find this – along with the rest of the first of Neve’s autumn collection – at their Mainstore. Finally, the shoes I’m wearing are by Reign (also at Collabor88) and… omg they look like they’d be so soft and comfy to actually wear in RL. And I say this as a devout (RL) shoe hater!

Harvest Time

On a final note, the talented Prue Genira is accepting clients for photography and did this gorgeous pic of me last night. It came out so pretty I had to ask if it would be okay to include here. If you’re in need of a new profile pic or portrait, definitely check out Prue’s work!

Where the ocean meets the land

I fell head over heels in love with this adorable Alice Project hair released at Hair Fair 2016. The (literal) hair bow and braid are so sweet and just perfectly done. I knew this was one I’d need to shoot from the back, to really show how gorgeous it is, but the front is very pretty, too. I’m wearing the frilled swim bottom in bloom that is part of Neve’s recent, ginormous swim collection release. What’s cool is you can mix and match the tops and bottoms, making these really customizable. But I decided to be a bit sassy and just wear the cute, ruffly bottom for this pic!

where the ocean meets the land

I wanted to show you the new LAQ mesh head, Trinity. This is LAQ’s first foray into mesh heads, and I really love it. The shape of the face is so beautifully done. There are a few things that particularly stand out for me about LAQ’s head. First off, it’s OMEGA compatible out of the box. No add on to buy or wear. You can wear any OMEGA applier you’d like with it. Secondly, it has a really nice, clean hud. It’s very user friendly and not overly complicated, which is something I think is a particular bonus for anyone who has wanted a mesh head, but maybe has felt overwhelmed by all the huds and options. I’m wearing the built in default applier, which is called Wilma, and is also available for sale at the LAQ store, so if you like the applier but are attached to your current head (no pun intended), you can demo it and see if you like it on that head (as long as it’s OMEGA compatible). There are also multiple other appliers available for it, including some of LAQ’s more popular older skins, like Elena. Also, I’m still wearing the Jennilynn hair here, so you can see how sweet and pretty the front bangs are.

Trinity

Hair Fair 2016 wraps up this weekend, closing with Bandana Day on Sunday, July 31st. This annual event is truly amazing, and something I always look forward to, so be sure to look out for my Bandana Day ensemble on Sunday! In the meantime, be sure you go and grab your own bandanas. They’re only L$50 per bandana, with 100% of the proceeds going to charity, and there are – as always – some truly incredible and creative options to choose from… even if you’re not a blogger, it’s a great cause and you get something fun and unique out of it!

I stand for peace…

When I first heard of the “I stand for peace” challenge presented by The White Canvas Gallery, I have to admit… my tendency towards cynicism won over. My first, honest thought? I’d love to stand for peace, but my legs are going to get awfully tired. But being me is complicated. Because even though I can be cynical (though I tend to prefer to think I’m just realistic), I can also be idealistic. So, I have said it before and I’ll say it now: I’m a realistic idealist. I can recognize when I’m being idealistic, but I refuse to give up the idea that there’s a place for idealism in this world.

I really like this quote, and not just because I consider Sara Teasdale to be one of the most underrated poets in history.

I make the most of all that comes and the least of all that goes. ~Sara Teasdale

I like to think I manage to do this most of the time. My life has been interesting and difficult. Full of love, but also challenges. However, I like to believe that, when faced with hardships, I find a way to make the best of a bad situation. To find the proverbial silver lining. So, even though I fear that we’re living in a time that will face far more violence before we achieve anything akin to peace, I also think we can find ways to look for peace from within, to take strength from the stories of others; of those who survive, of those who saved, of those who died so others might live. We can see the beauty that is always here, and remember the wise words of Dumbledore (via JK Rowling): Happiness can be found even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light.

It seemed fitting to blog this challenge using one of the gorgeous hairs you can find at Hair Fair 2016. I feel that this event is an example of the best of humanity, of the goodness and love that exists in this world, and I mean the real one as well as our virtual one. Because, after all, this event benefits real life children. Also appropriate, I felt, was to use something currently available at The Epiphany – these adorable butterflies from Cubic Cherry Creations. For if ever the world needed another epiphany, the time would be now.

My hair is from Mina. I loved the windblown feel of this hair, and I’ve always been a huge fan of Mina’s red shades. My adorable capri pants are by Just Because for N21 and I’m wearing the N21 exclusive color, which will not be available when the event ends! The tank top I’m wearing is one of Neve’s summer offerings. My sandals are from fri.day, and fri.day has moved to a new location, so be sure to update your LM!

I stand for peace

Now I have to talk about this gorgeous new mesh head from Catwa. Bibi has such a sweet, youthful face. It felt perfect for this dreamy, peaceful look I wanted. I paired it with Glam Affair’s Gabriela applier, which is part of the Gacha Guardians event. If you’ve been looking for a mesh head with a young, soft vibe, definitely go demo this one. Bibi is a basic head, which means you can get the static version of it for just $L900. You can check out this image, which explains all of the various options available on Catwa heads.

Sweet Bibi

If you haven’t done the “I stand for peace” challenge yet, consider it. It’s simple, but powerful. And I was nominated by the lovely Saffie to do it, so really… I had to.
