I call the wind

So, I don’t know if it shows but I am really enjoying blogging the various autumnal/Halloween seasonal items! The current round of Collabor88 has a color palette that is perfect for this time of year, and many of the items have a spooktacular feel to them!

This dress and the boots are both ISON items from Collab. I love this dress, and the boots are fabulous. They come in a lot of great colors, and you can have fun mixing and matching (I did black boots with the teal dress), or you can match the boots to the dress color! Clawtooth had this dramatic hair, complete with poses you can buy to show off the windswept look, and I knew I needed both. The candelabras are one of floorplan’s Collab items, and the circle of candles is from Flowey. That has poses built in that are a lot of fun, too. I really want to try to get a shot of one of those, if I have time! But go to Collabor88 and check all of it out for yourself! The lace covered pumpkins are from A.D.D. Andel! and the stone patio and fireplace is a set from Trompe Loeil.

I call the wind

Also from Collab is this gorgeous Glam Affair skin. It’s another variation on the Neva face, and I adore it! My beautiful earrings are one of the items Yummy has at Collabor88, too. I had to get them because I love anything celestial! The headpiece is from Deviance, and that is from Fantasy Gacha Fair. It’s incredibly detailed, and it’s scripted with a ton of colors for the gems, beads and metal parts.

Falling for fall

I love autumn fashion. There’s so much wonderful autumn to be found on the grid right now. Collabor88 is full of fall goodies, and a trip to the current round of The Boutique also resulted in some great goodies. So, I combined my findings for you!

My dress is from SySy, and it is a Collabor88 item along with my adorable boots from fri.day. The socks on these boots have a color change hud, and they are optional. The boots and the chemise dress come in so many awesome colors choices. You’ll find it really hard to pick just one, trust me! My hair is also from Collab, by Clawtooth. I love the sassy little beret. The scarf is from Ispachi, and that I grabbed at The Boutique. It is color change via a hud, right down to the adorable stag pin. Oh, and there is a version for men, too!

Autumn Flirt

Also from The Boutique are my gorgeous eyes, from a new line IKON debuted at the event. My skin is one of the brand new skins from Glam Affair. Glam Affair just reopened with a lovely new build and two new full skin releases. Angelica is so soft, and utterly beautiful. I fell head over heels for this skin!

Here’s a closer look at my cute boots! I took these pics on the sim that is home to Ariskea. It’s utterly beautiful, and you should visit it!

Autumn Accessories

Finally, I had to throw in a pic of my cute little autumn garden. My pumpkin patch is from Dysfunctional Designs, and I really adore everything from that store. The pose is one of Embody’s, which I had to convince Rad to make since I love pumpkins so much!

Bandana Day & Love Donna Flora

One of my favorite parts of Hair Fair is Bandana Day. This is done on the last day of Hair Fair, where people are encouraged to lose their hair and don a bandana. The SL community works together to make fabulous bandanas, each of which cost 50L and are for sale on the Hair Fair sims in the Bandana Booths. These bandanas help raise more money for Wigs For Kids, and on top of that are a great way to show solidarity with those who have lost their hair, whether due to medical treatment for an illness, or illness itself. For me, this particular charity is especially emotional because it is to help children. Children fill the world with hope, and hope is its own kind of magic.

There are such a wide variety of styles, ranging from quirky to adorably sweet to glam. The bandana I chose was created by Anya Ohmai, and she shared her personal story via a NC that comes with the bandana. I am not going to share her story here. You need to go buy it, and read about it yourselves! It’s powerful and touching, and it really moved me. I bought this bandana because it was so unique, and so elegant. I thought… who says losing one’s hair means you have to give up on being graceful and sophisticated?! When I saw this Ray Of Light dress SAKIDE has for the Black Market, I knew it was a perfect match to the bandana. Not only did it enchant me with a unique style (and a hud to change dress colors!), but the name of it is one full of hope, and that seemed perfect!

Defiant Grace

My skin is from Glam Affair, and is another of the Lulu skins available at Collabor88 this round. It’s so dramatic and elegant, and I thought the pale tone worked nicely with the black dress and dramatic bandana. Oh, and aren’t my elephant earrings cute? They are from HandVerk for The Boutique. I love elephants!

Tomorrow an event called Love Donna Flora opens. This event is a fundraiser for Squinternet Larnia, the owner of Donna Flora. I do not know Squinternet, and I will be completely honest and say that I don’t own anything from her store, either. So why blog this event? When I read about it, it broke my heart… but at the same time it made me feel grateful that this stranger I do not know, who is going through something none of us should have to face, was surrounded by so much love and support in the SL community. But it’s also personal… you see, when I was about 10 my beloved great aunt finally went to the doctor about a lump she’d discovered in her breast about 18 months earlier. She’d been too scared to face it, and was living in denial. Then she broke her ankle doing something that never should’ve caused a break in the bone. During that visit, she finally came clean about the lump. It turned out that what began as breast cancer had metastasized into bone cancer. Four years later, after many surgeries, chemo treatments and being a guinea pig for a doctor that exploited her in her vulnerable state, she lost her fight. Squinternet’s story made me remember my Aunt Dorothy’s story… and I so badly want for Squinternet to get a much happier ending. It doesn’t matter that we’ve never met. I am cheering for her. So, here I am… and this is why I wanted to blog for this event, and to do my small part to help spread the word.

These pics combine items from both Love Donna Flora and Hair Fair. It seemed appropriate to unite these two great causes in one look. The beautiful dress I am wearing is from Miamai for LDF, and it comes in a variety of stunning colors. My hair is one of Clawtooth’s Hair Fair releases. I loved the casual elegance of this hair. It felt like it would be very versatile! The pose is from Pretense, and is another item you can snag at Love Donna Flora.

Miamai for Love Donna Flora

The skin I’m wearing is Katya. Katya new from Glam Affair, and is available at The Boutique. Few people know this, but Katya was my nickname in high school. My best friend Laura and I had nicknames for each other. She was Skye and I was Katya. I still love the name, and it makes me miss her (she’s an “off the grid” type)! She’d approve of this look, I think.

Hope

Hair Fair runs through July 28th (that day is Bandana Day, so go grab yours today in preparation), and I will have more from there tomorrow (or maybe later today). Love Donna Flora opens tomorrow and runs through August 11th, so be sure to check out both of these events while you can. You get to shop and help people at the same time, and really… does shopping get much better than when you know it’s supporting a good cause?

Hair Fair!!!

(I wanted to edit this post because Seraphim did such amazing coverage of this event, and it will help you in your shopping! Check out their post here!)

The Hair Fair opens tomorrow!!! The event runs through July 29th, so you’ll have plenty of time to go and grab all sorts of goodies. This is a charity event and proceeds go to Wigs For Kids. This fabulous organization helps benefit children who have lost their hair due to various medical conditions, as well as cancer treatments.

In this post, I want to share some of the awesome Hair Fair 2012 gifts you can find at the event. Later, I’ll be doing posts featuring some of the hair I bought. Freebies are great, and I am very thankful to the designers who worked hard to provide some fabulous gifts… but please also buy some hair, if you can. This charity really deserves some love!

For the sake of both saving time and showing the freebies in fairly true form, I did very little editing on these pics beyond cropping and some smudging of harsh edges. However, before I show you the freebies… here’s a look at the “low lag” freebie outfit provided by DCNY for the event. There are two top options and two pant options. You also get a selection of hairbases from Exile, however I chose to buy this utterly adorable bandana made by Callie Cline of KittyCatS. It was all of $L50, but that money goes to Wigs For Kids and every penny counts. It’s a great way to go low lag and still be stylish, and tons of designers and bloggers (not me, lol) created bandanas you can buy. Mine is the Bengal Sorrel, which is one of several from KittyCatS!

And a close up of the adorable bandana… also, read more about the Bandana Day project here.

Okay, now humor me for a moment while we address lag. They’ve taken some remarkable measures to help reduce lag, the details of which are on the blog. However, any crowded SL event will have lag. You can do your part to help lower the lag by removing scripted objects and wearing a low lag outfit. If you don’t like the official Hair Fair one, create one of your own! I have a default “low lag” look saved in my outfits folder, just for occasions like this one. Furthermore, despite my blogger vanity, I don’t give a rat’s ass about walking around bald or without my AO. I’d rather do my part to help lower lag! My “official” low lag outfit is featured in the other pics. Oh, also… I’m wearing Maitreya flip flops in my pics, but my default low lag look has no shoes or prim feet at all. I’ve seen some people debating on forums or Plurk about this issue, and frankly, it’s just plain silly. If you’re so vain you can’t handle waddling like a newb to help lower lag, skip crowded events. Especially when they are for charity! Okay, off my soapbox now. Which means… FREEBIE TIME!

First up… Hinako had a cute Hair Fair gift in Mocha. I added the Red Mint heart pin mouthie that they had out as a gift. I think this hair would be especially cute on a kid avie. It’s also has a scripted resizer in it, which came in handy because my head is apparently rather huge.

Next… Clawtooth had out a cute style called Cosmic Love in Dusty Black. I like this hair, but I will warn any avs with bigger boobs that it’s likely to go inside you. My boobs are about a 46, with gravity pretty low for mesh, and it still went inside me in most poses. But… it’s free and cute, so really, who can complain?

Milana had out a very cute style, with several color options, as a gift. This shade is called ginger and the hair is called Mel.

At ChiChickie I found a cute freebie, but what stood out especially was the adorable Zen hairpin that came with it. It’s a separate attachment, so you can use it for other hair, too. Also, this hair came with a hud so you get a lot of color choices.

if you’re into dreadlocks, be sure you stop by Discord Designs. They have an awesome mesh hair gift, as you can see below, and you get several color choices and hairbases, too. There’s also more than one style in their freebie bag. This is Jada in Deep Red.

Colors has out a free gift in a ton of, well… colors. I went with the dark brown. This one is really cute, and was one of my favorites.

I had a lot of “wow, I didn’t know that store made hair” while I was walking the sims (which, btw… they did an AMAZING job of laying this event out and it’s SO easy to navigate). Mons was one of those stores! But this freebie, Mare, from there is utterly adorable and comes in multiple colors. I’m wearing the red.

The Most Creative freebie award goes, hands down, to Nashuru, with their Botanical Pigtails gift. This “hair” is so clever, and though I can’t think of a reason I’d ever need it, I also know I will never delete it… because it’s well done, quirky and the second I delete it, I’ll have some reason to want it!

Finally… the Best Hair Fair freebie award goes to Alice Project. Tessa is mesh, and comes in two versions – with and without bangs. It also comes with a mini version of her Nova Hud. You get a great selection of natural colors, and well. It’s just so freakin’ cute. I’m wearing the version with bangs, and I made a dirty joke about this earlier to my friend Nimil, but uhm. Yeah. Anyway. Here’s the pic!

At any rate, if you only make a point to find one freebie at the event, this is definitely the one to find in my opinion!

That is all from me for now. Credits for everything else in the pics can be found down yonder!
