Electric Youth

I feel like the era of my tweens and early teens (aka late 80s/early 90s) is suddenly super popular again. From the recent debut of the Rewind event, with it’s 90’s theme, to some of the fun color combos at various events (like Uber), it just feels a bit surreal.

So maybe it’s not surprising that I found myself feeling a big nostalgic, and that before long said nostalgia led me to listen to Electric Youth, which came out in 1989. This iconic Debbie Gibson album inspired a line of cosmetics and a fragrance, all of which I – naturally – had. See, I was fascinated by Debbie Gibson. She wrote all of the songs on her album, and she also produced six of the ten tracks on the album entirely on her own. It was only with her first album that I had learned a strange lesson… not all singers are songwriters. Up until Out of the Blue got a lot of attention for having been written by a 16 year-old, it never dawned on me that singers didn’t also write their song lyrics or music. This is undoubtedly the result of being a songwriter’s daughter; my dad was in bands my entire childhood, and they wrote everything they did that wasn’t a cover and my dad was the primary lyricist. So it kind of never occurred to me that other people didn’t write their own songs.

At any rate, this revelation made Debbie Gibson a hero of mine. I was six years younger than her, but she was doing amazing things. Then she became Eponine in Les Mis (“On My Own” was “my” song; I sang it in 8th grade and related deeply to it), and that just sealed it for me. Debbie Gibson was totally amazing.

So, this was my tribute to that time in my life… a skort (!) and chunky plastic ring from Decoy, a cropped t-shirt with the word “dazed” from Tee*Fy at N21, some curly pigtails and blunt bangs, brand new from Truth and available at the current round of Uber. Uber has a brand new layout to help make shopping easier., and a great big bubble of pink gum, thanks to Catwa. Oh, and the perfect 90s-esque photo backdrop courtesy of Mons! I swear I know someone with framed prints that looked like this wall.

Pop Sugar

I just got the Catwa (bento) Kimberly head, as a birthday gift from a dear friend. I chose Kimberly over Catya and Lilo, Catwa’s other two heads (another one, Lona, is either newly out or about to be released) neither of which felt very “me,” even with shape changes. But Kimberly does! It’s very cute and works well with fuller lips and larger eyes. I am featuring some items from the February Powder Pack here. This skin applier is Kelly, from Amara. I wasn’t familiar with Amara but I loved this applier. That’s one of the fun things about these subscription boxes. You get to try out some stores you don’t know! I’m wearing the Powder Pack eyeliner/shadow by DeeTaleZ, which was tintable, so I made it this very 90s teal shade to match my hair. And the lipgloss is from Pink Fuel’s Powder Pack release. My lashes are also from Powder Pack, by Bold & Beauty. I had some trouble adjusting mesh eyes to fit in my Catwa head (and unlike the LeLutka heads, you must use mesh eyes). While Catwa’s heads come with rigged eyes, I wanted more options. Ultimately, the eyes I found easiest to adjust to my shape were from theSkinnery’s Palermo collection. These also have an OMEGA applier version, as well as system eyes. Oh and the adorable moles are another Powder Pack release, from okbye!

Electric Youth

If you missed the Powder Pack you can buy it later, but please note that the original price is $L1500 and after the price is L$3000 so it’s worth it if you love makeup and skins! Plus, there is going to be a LeLutka version starting later this month… now I just have to figure out which version I want! Gah!

Fantasy Faire 2016

Fantasy Faire 2016 is open and runs through May 5th. This event supports Relay For Life, which if you’re not familiar helps to raise money for cancer research. But it’s also a celebration of those who’ve been through cancer and lived to share their stories and a time to remember those whose battles could not be won with our still far too limited treatment options. Fantasy Faire features so many fabulous designers, with products for sale to help raise funds, and those creators have, as usual, outdone themselves with both their talent and generosity in giving to this great cause.

But the stars of Fantasy Faire each year are the amazing builds. This year there are fourteen sims in total. FOURTEEN. It’s crazy! There are ten shopping sims, an entertainment sim, a literary sim, a sim that commemorates and celebrates those lost and, of course, The Fairelands Junction, which is your portal to all of the other sims.

I took pics on all sims, and my goal is to share all fourteen pics with you. I have four to share right now.

First, sponsored by Arcadia, is Blackmoor. Blackmoor is dramatic and darkly mysterious and beautiful. I’ll be blogging a bit more of what I’m wearing in a future post, but my rain boots and umbrella are both Decoy and available at The Epiphany, as is the dress from Luas. If you click here to go to the official Fantasy Faire blog, you can see a completely list of stores you’ll find on Blackmoor.

Blackmoor Sponsored by Arcadia

Breeze, sponsored by Solarium, is colorful and really, really cute. It has a feel of being something out of a children’s book (at least to me). Here’s a link to the list of stores to be found on Breeze.

Breeze sponsored by Solarium

Sponsored by KittyCatS, I think Bright Haven is the sim where I’d most like to live! The cheerful, bright little cottages and the beautiful waterfront just makes it so quaint and charming. Here you’ll find the list of stores located on Bright Haven.

And finally, for today, Dangarnon. Sponsored by Death Row Designs, this darkly beautiful sim speaks (to me) of a bygone era. Click here for a complete list of stores on Dangarnon.

For all of the information you’ll need to navigate this large event, I highly recommend going through the official Fantasy Faire website. And if you’re not into fantasy, but still want to help the cause, you will find plenty of donation kiosks throughout the sims to do just that!

The Forgotten

So, back at the beginning of this month I did some pics for a New Year’s blog. Then I got distracted. Oops. I do that sometimes. Also, can you believe January is nearly over already?

I got my husband to pose with me for a blog pic. He’s reclusive, so this was a special treat. It was actually taken on New Year’s Eve. I have to be honest… it feels like it was far longer than a month ago! My dress is from NiNight Creations. It comes in tons of color options and it’s just so pretty. The detail work on this is spectacular. Rad’s suit is from Fatewear. Behind us you see the cute decor What Next did to ring in the New Year, placed on my Laurel fireplace (also from What Next).

2013

I also grabbed my BFF Rosa for a photo shoot to celebrate the end of 2012 and the start of 2013. This photo box called, appropriately, Countdown was from the December round of My Attic and is by W. Winx. It’s seriously fun. I am not sure if it was an event exclusive, but since it doesn’t have just 2013 on it, it’s something that I know I can use again this New Year’s Eve! Rosa & I are wearing dresses from SySy’s and hair from Exile.

Let the countdown begin

Rosa’s skin is Halo, from Aeva. It’s such a soft and pretty skin, and it suits Rosa so nicely.

My Best Friend

My skin is Lana from Glance. I fell in love with the uniqueness of this skin. It wasn’t quite like any skin I’d seen in SL. I especially love the heavy lidded eyes. They are sleepy and sexy. My necklace is from Maxi Gossamer. I thought a necklace that featured a clock pendant was appropriate for a New Year’s look.

Celebrate

So, there you have it… my New Year’s blog post. It’s still January, so I think it’s in under the wire. Okay, maybe not. But these things were just too awesome to not blog.

Curtain Call…

Cinema’s last days are upon us! This awesome event is open through Halloween… so you have 2 days left to shop it. Here are some more of my favorite looks from the event.

First, for the Halloween horror lovers… Auxiliary has two really cute tops. One is the bunny hoodie with a sugar skull type motif. I paired that with bloody jeans from Evolve (also at Cinema), and my beloved Izzie’s Asylum skin. This Haunted House Ride was really cool. It has many rooms based on popular horror films, and since you just sit and get driven through it, it’s low impact. :p

Haunted Ride

I took this next pic in the cemetery at T Town. I love that sim, and this was the perfect location. This top is also from Auxiliary, and seemed perfect for Zombie Hunting since it features some walking dead. I can’t wait for the regular release of this top. I am crazy in love with it. I paired it with cute hair from Aushka, Gos’s recently released Equestrian boots and jeans. Who says you can’t be glam while hunting the undead?

Zombie Hunter

Speaking of glam… this dress from SySy’s for Cinema is just stunning. It comes in a wide variety of colors, but I felt like a wedding cake topper in the pretty, frothy, white. I paired it with this elegant ponytail from a recent Truth release, and the softly elegant Fuyu skin from Izzie’s.

Cake Topper

I also snagged this Shakespeare cameo set from Caroline’s at Cinema. As a future English teacher, I just had to have this. It was unique, and I love chokers in general.

Shakespeare In Love

One thing I love about events like Cinema is the chance to discover a new store. I’d never heard of Volstead before, but oh, there was so much there to love. I have other items from this store I plan to blog in the future, but this little chemise was one I had to get into this final Cinema post. Unlike most mesh items, this piece uses glitch layers instead of alphas. The result is subtly sheer and very seductive. The detail work on this item really astounds me. I’m very impressed by the texturing.

Little Blue Chemise

Finally… this is a closeup of the Femme Fatale series Alyx skin from Pink Fuel. Though not for Cinema, I couldn’t resist pairing this dramatic, sexy skin with my little blue chemise. You can find this skin at The Costume Ball event. I am eagerly awaiting the full release of the Alyx line. I really love this skin!

Femme Fatale

More from me soon. Due to RL illness, I’m late (yep, again) with my final RYCC post! It’s coming, though… as soon as I figure out what to wear.

Unmellow Yellow

The color for this week’s 52 Weeks of Color challenge was “unmellow yellow.” I don’t own a lot of yellow. I’m sort of fussy about the color. There simply aren’t a lot of yellow shades I like, and generally I prefer the softer colors. Despite being called “unmellow,” I found this color to be one of the more gentle yellows.

I claimed these boots as part of my prize for coming in second in the recent Truth District style contest. They are from Miel, and I knew I had to have them when I saw them. They are a perfect match for this adorable hair from Elikatira.

I took these pics at T Town… it’s such a perfect sim for this look, and it’s definitely a place worth exploring.
