Unwrapping a shiny New Year!

For those who have been celebrating, happy Orthodox Christmas/Epiphany to you. This is a special day for me because it’s the anniversary of the first time I ever spoke to my husband, 18 years ago. We made our first date plans over the phone and spent a couple of hours getting to know each other. I always think of it as the day of our personal epiphanies.

I’ve got 3 pics for you today, and the final pic is slightly NSFW. I began the new year with a stomach bug that had me mostly in bed for several days now but I’m finally feeling more myself. I hope your start to 2017 was more cheerful!

First, if you haven’t already seen it, LeLutka has released the updated, Bento compatible version of their popular Simone head. If you already own the original Simone head, wear it when you buy the new one and you will be refunded 50% (the original purchase price of $L2500), which is just awesome! I think this is a stunning head, which was very easy to customize. This new option is great for those who’ve craved a mesh head but wanted to keep their own face, and multiple stores, including Catwa have released bento heads. I already owned Simone, and the updated version was a gift from a dear friend. The new LeLutka HUD is really sleek and easy to use. Definitely check it out. As always, it includes a base skin from Glam Affair, but GA also released several brand new appliers for it which can be found right at LeLutka, in the Undivided section where you’ll find all of their mesh heads. Please note this is the ONLY pre-existing head that is being updated to be Bento compatible. I am wearing Simone with the new Lucrezia applier, which is available at Uber. The eye makeup I have on is from the Simone hud, however. My necklace and earrings by Cae are the exclusive Gifts of the Guardians that you can get from the Gos & Cae collaboration at Gacha Guardians.

Happy New Year!

In both pics I am wearing the Christina gown released at the Just Because mainstore right around the holidays. This gown is absolutely stunning and I could not choose a single color, so I had to change it for the headshot. This can be worn without the fur jacket, which makes it extremely versatile, and while it was the perfect dress for the holiday season, it certainly works year round, with or without the jacket! My malt is wearing a suit from Deadwool. This particular pattern was a limited edition, but it’s available in other colors and it’s really so well done.

Auld Lang Syne

Finally, I knew I wanted to do this last picture the second I saw this clever collaboration between SLC and Sallie at October’s round of The Epiphany. I thought, a tied up, sexy Christmas gift type pic would be hot. This one’s below the cut since it’s sorta NSFW.

Tumble in the hay

The title of this post is inspired by the stunning Tumble head from Catwa. I want to say this is a “new” release, but with how quickly she’s been releasing gorgeous new heads, it’s not that new anymore! So we’ll call it a “recent” release instead. What I love about Tumble is that it has this elegance and sophistication to it. Clean lines, smaller eyes than some of her more recent heads, a lovely nose… it feels very mature. And it works well with so many of the appliers I’ve tried it with so far! In this pic I am wearing Merry from DeeTaleZ in Nordic, and I think it lends a bit of soft sweetness to this face. I’m also wearing one of Exile’s two new releases for the current round of Collabor88.

Tumble in the hay

My cute top is also at Collabor88, from Blueberry. It comes in a wide variety of colors and the cropped tank underneath can be turned off and recolored, too, via the HUD. My comfy cords are new from Neve, and there are four color options. You can also hide the belt. You’ll find this – along with the rest of the first of Neve’s autumn collection – at their Mainstore. Finally, the shoes I’m wearing are by Reign (also at Collabor88) and… omg they look like they’d be so soft and comfy to actually wear in RL. And I say this as a devout (RL) shoe hater!

Harvest Time

On a final note, the talented Prue Genira is accepting clients for photography and did this gorgeous pic of me last night. It came out so pretty I had to ask if it would be okay to include here. If you’re in need of a new profile pic or portrait, definitely check out Prue’s work!

24 Months Of Collabor88

Collabor88 has been my favorite event ever since it opened. Don’t get me wrong, there are a lot of events that I love and adore, but I’d be lying if I didn’t say Collab stole my heart long ago. I don’t think there’s been a single round I haven’t shopped. So when I heard about the blogger search, I agonized over what to do, how to define my entry. I knew I wanted to only feature items from this and past rounds of the event, but that wasn’t enough. Finally, it came to me this past week. I went to the Collabor88 catalog and went back as far as the galleries go, which turns out to be March of 2014. I determined I was going to incorporate at least one item from every single round since.

I went through every single catalog and found items in my inventory from that round to work with, starting with the build by Dust Bunny and working from there. Aside from my mesh body (Maitreya’s Lara) and my mesh head (Catwa’s Annie), everything in the scene below – including my nail appliers and eyes – came from one of the past 24 rounds of Collabor88. I will credit by round below the pics, starting with the most recent round and ending in March 2014. Aside from my earrings, I owned all of these items prior to this month’s Espionage themed round. My earrings are from a round that was in the summer and everything I owned for it was out of place for the scene. Including my poor but adorable bubble blowing crab.

Chocolate Desires

Chocolate is a serious thing. ~Deanna Troi

I very much believe Counselor Troi had the right idea where chocolate was concerned. I mean, it is a serious thing. So the Artisan Fantasy Chocolate Shoppe set for The Epiphany, with all its goodies, spoke to me right away. I mean, c’mon! Truffles… boxes of beautifully wrapped chocolate gifts. I love the wrappings just as much as the chocolates insides sometimes! It’s fun. It feels so posh to buy a box of Godiva all beautifully wrapped for the holiday (whichever one it happens to be!). The cute polka dot lingerie I’m wearing are common items from Blueberry’s Epiphany set, the gorgeous bed is from Sway’s. It was at the December round of Uber, so if it’s not yet in her Mainstore, I imagine it should be soon. The chair in the little room behind me is from Brocante, but through tomorrow you can grab it at the Love To Decorate event. Brocante is the new name for collaborations between floorplan and Consignment, and Brocante items can be found here, along with floorplan’s items. The fawn over the chair is at the floorplan mainstore, and the sign over the bed is a floorplan release for Collabor88. My sparkly, glittery hair is from Olive for The Epiphany. I love the sexy, bedhead look of this one!

Don’t wanna sleep

I love the nap tubs from floorplan for The Epiphany. They’re seriously cute, and look so cozy I wish I had one just like them in RL. They have a jumping animation built in, and this is how I feel right now. Like I’d rather jump on the bed than sleep! We’re leaving for a 1200 mile road trip tomorrow (be back Wednesday night), and I am so excited I’m finding sleep elusive. I decided this would be a perfect way to show off the silly gift Izzie’s released at Geeks ‘N Nerds… googly eyed pasties! There’s also ones you can wear over your eyes. They come in both static and animated versions. My hair is another Geeks ‘N Nerds release, from Olive, and my skin is by Atomic and can be found at The Epiphany!

Don't wanna sleep

I took the photo on one of the docks at Blithe. And now, it’s time for sleeping and vacationing! See soon!

Perfectly imperfect

So, there’s a new club opening Sunday called Altitude. Actually, it’s more of a destination venue than a club. It’s designed for live music performances, which is really cool and something I used to enjoy a lot of in SL (before I became a platform dweller 😛 ) In honor of the grand opening, Valentina E. Couture has made this sexy outfit as a launch gift! This outfit will only be available during the big debut event, from 12 pm to 5 pm SLT Sunday, September 13th! So don’t miss out… take the opportunity to go check out a new venue AND snag an awesome gift at the same time. Oh, and my adorable shoes are from fri.day, for the new Collabor88. This month’s witchy theme has been super popular, and it may still take a few tries to get in, but oh my, it is worth the effort once you do.

Living Room Star

Now, please bear with me while I get personal. And wordy.

You are imperfect, permanently and inevitably flawed. And you are beautiful. ~Amy Bloom

I love that quote. I think we live in a world that encourages this quest for flawlessness and perfection, and no matter how perfectly that foundation covers your “flaws,” they still exist. Not to mention, the most beautiful parts of ourselves aren’t the parts that show on the outside. Who we are as individuals isn’t contingent upon our skin being perfect, a number on the scale, the size of our pants or any other external thing. It’s about our personalities, and this is where true beauty lies. And even then, we’re still not perfect. No one is… and the quest for it just tends to leave us feeling inferior, self-conscious, empty and frustrated.

In Second Life, it’s possible to be physically “perfect,” whatever “perfection” might look like to us personally. And actually, it’s hard to NOT be perfect in some respects. Most skins are flawless, gorgeous works of art. And not that I don’t appreciate that, because I do. I appreciate beauty, in all of its forms. But sometimes I find myself wanting SL to be a little… more realistic. A little less perfect. Last year, I went from being a (smallish) medium in standard sizing to a very lush large. It was a big change. Most of you will have noticed that the size difference from medium to large is quite a jump. Much more pronounced than the difference from small to medium. When mesh first came out I was between a small and medium and I went smaller. The idea of making my avatar larger was so… distressing. And I didn’t want to admit that to myself, let alone to anyone else. But it’s true.

I’ve struggled with a RL eating disorder and body acceptance pretty much my entire life. I was a fat kid, a fat teen and I’m a fat adult. And I say “fat” merely as a descriptor, but oh it’s such a loaded word. It shouldn’t be, anymore than saying “I’m tall” or “I have brown eyes.” But our culture abhors fat, and strives to do everything to eradicate it where possible. I decided I wanted my SL shape to be fuller figured. I still wouldn’t call my av “fat,” but comparatively speaking she is… particularly in the blogging/fashion world of SL, where it seems most people tend to be thinner. In reality, even though to me, a (real life) person of a comparable size isn’t “fat,” I suspect that if you went by the (useless) BMI charts the woman in question would be considered “overweight,” if not “obese.” But size is relative, in some respects, and what is “thin” or “fat” varies depending on perspective, too. I have never and will never be that person who goes into any store and easily finds clothes that fit, perfectly, without trouble. Though it may seem strange I’d want to relive that experience in Second Life, I have worked very hard on eating disorder recovery and body acceptance in real life, and it occurred to me last year that my avatar being so close to a societally idealized shape was not a healthy thing for me. It should be noted that Lucie’s build is really nothing like my RL one, but it still feels more true to myself. It was a matter of finding the balance between fantasy and reality that wouldn’t messing with my head… but I still often wished for a fuller face.

Enter Mallory Cowen, the talented creator behind LAQ, who has recently introduced skins that are exactly what I’ve been craving in my SL. Particularly Elise, which I’m wearing below. Elise comes with a “built in” double chin. There’s a tattoo layer for a “simple” chin, too, for those who love the skin but don’t want a double chin. Her features are fuller and I just love this skin so much. You can also buy the double chin tattoo separately for use with other LAQ skins (and you may be able to match them to other brands, but I’d demo first, to be sure). My cute fortune cookie necklace is a new release from Cae for The Mix, and which you can grab at the Mainstore.

Perfectly Imperfect

It struck me as I photographed this skin, trying to find a light that didn’t minimize the double chin, how… counter-intuitive that is, how even now, with all the work I’ve done to accept myself as I am today, I’d probably cringe if lighting made my double chin seem even more pronounced. I would immediately recognize what I was doing, and shut down the negative self-talk. But it would probably still happen, particularly on a bad day. But that’s what I mean… no one is perfect. We all have our problems and flaws, and trying to deny that or trying to “erase” them, well… for me, at least, that’s like trying to erase a part of who I really am. And that’s just not something I am willing to do anymore.

I applaud Mallory for her work. It’s something I think SL really needed, and it’s going to be great for RPers (she did several more mature skins, too). Check out the LAQ blog for more pics, and I plan to blog some of her other newer skins, too! I look forward to seeing what she does next.

Til the cows come home

Let’s talk about cows. I know that’s probably a strange first sentence to an SL blog, but I promise it will all make sense soon. Or, well. To me, anyway. I can’t promise it will make sense to you. But give me a try!

In RL I live not far from a ranch. And every year, right around my birthday in late February, there are newborn calves. Our second year here, my husband mistakenly called them “mooborns” as a joke, and I squealed in delight. Now “mooborn” season is highly anticipated by all. Or at least by me, and possibly by the pregnant cows and the ranch owners. Not so sure my husband highly anticipates the squealing of “MOOBORNS” every time we pass, along with delighted shrieks of “ohmygawd they are SO TINY!” What can I say, I’m a child at heart. Besides, this thing with cows began with my father. My father was a man of many faults, but one of the more endearing (and yeah, okay sometimes frustrating) qualities he had was this childlike joy of life, this ability to be so silly and make us laugh. When we were little kids, he’d take us to The Land Of Make Believe in Hope, New Jersey. Hope is in a part of New Jersey few people realize exists. It’s beautiful, as rural as you get in a state that small and with that many people, and it’s full of farmland (or was, I imagine there’s been some build up). It’s near the Delaware River, and it will always remain a very special place in my heart. But as you might imagine, there are some cows in that area. And when we drove by them with our dad, he’d cry out “MOOOOOOOOOO!” It became a thing. So as silly as my “mooborns” thing might be, or as silly as it may be when we drive by at Christmas and I say “Moory Christmas, cows,” it also makes me happy. It’s like some sort of weird tribute to my dad, a way to remember happier times with him, and I know he’d approve and probably join in, if he were here to do so.

So, as you might imagine, when Dysfunctional Designs recently released cows, I was delighted. See? I told you it would all come together. I already have the Dysfunctional Designs chickens (their clucking sometimes might make my poor husband crazy), with their adorable (and texture change) hen house. And I recently built a pen for my Half-Deer Kerfluffle collection (or at least some of them). So of course, I needed a pasture for my cows. Which, by the way, MOO! They actually moo (both the cow moos and chicken clucks can be turned off, btw). They also swish their tails, and lower their heads, as if to graze. They’re texture change with a bunch of color options, including a couple not seen below. Oh, and there is a static, non-mooing version with built in animations. So if you’ve ever wanted to sit on, sleep on or hang out on a cow, here’s your chance. I’m sitting on Ethel below. The official name given by Dysfunctional is Bessie, btw. But of course, they can’t ALL be called Bessie! I am obsessed with naming things, and so is my sister Isley. So I named the white cow Bella, the grey cow Tess. Isley named the rest. Ethel is the one I am sitting on, Martha is the solid black one, the red and white one is Beverly and Bessie is the black and white one. I know you really wanted to know all of that. Just be glad I didn’t share the chickens’ names. And yes, they have them.

What is she doing to Ethel!?

Okay, enough about cows. Let’s talk about my outfit next. I’m wearing a new(ish) release from coldLogic. This was their first release designed to be mesh body friendly. I’m not wearing it with the mesh body here, but it did work nicely with my Maitreya and SLink bodies. I’m also wearing one of the releases from the newly opened FATEstep, the Ziggy chucks. Finding cute sneakers in SL is such a challenge, and these are awesome! The FATEstep shoes have so many color options via the HUD, and these include versions for system feet, so if you’re not into mesh bodies or body parts, and have been frustrated trying to find shoes, check out what FATEstep has to offer. Not all of their shoes include system feet versions, but some do!

My skin is Izzie’s latest full release, Romy. This lovely skin was released at Skin Fair, but is now available at Izzie’s Mainstore. I look so sweet and innocent, and no matter what anyone might tell you, it’s not a lie. 😀 Again I am wearing Truth’s new Flynn hair. I know I just blogged this, and I pretty much never repeat something that fast (if at all), but I am really in love with this hair. After hanging out with the cows, I needed a break, so I took shelter in my floorplan sleepover tent.

Sunset Solitude

If you’d like to party until the cows come home, or better yet, party with some cows, go get your bovine fix at The Fantasy Collective. The pack of cows is just L$145 which is an amazing deal for how detailed they are and with the texture options.

Bohemian Rhapsody

So, here’s a secret. I love boho style. Okay, maybe that’s not much of a secret, but it’s still true. So when I heard the latest round of Uber had a bohemian theme, I knew I was in glorious trouble… the sort that gets you grounded as a teenager but it is so worth it you don’t even care. That sort of trouble. Add in some things from the wonderful new Shiny Shabby event and I was a double goner.

First, a bit of decor. I love rugs. I think there tends to be a major shortage of well done rugs in SL. So when I saw the rugs Junk had done for Uber, I was elated and knew they must be mine. The flipped up edge of this rug made me think of the adorable puppy and kitten playing that Ispachi did for December’s Arcade. It seems like this is a rug that had been frolicked on! The pile of books is Zerkalo, from their gacha at Shiny Shabby, and the rose in the vase on top of that is from the floorplan/Consignment collaboration that is (appropriately) part of Collabor88 this round. The gorgeous drapes are also at Collab, from Half-Deer. And I have to say, I rarely buy curtains/drapes in SL. I’ve seen other people make them work in amazing ways, but I always feel like I fail. These were so beautiful I couldn’t resist, and I thought they dressed up the brick wall of my llorisen skybox nicely!

Boho Buddies

In the next pic you get a mix of fashion and decor… this insanely gorgeous skin, with its luscious pout is Alice from Glam Affair. Alice is available at both Kustom 9 and Shiny Shabby right now, but this particular makeup is from the Shiny Shabby edition. My hair is also from Shiny Shabby. It’s by Tableau Vivant and it’s the debut of a new “frizzy” texture hud. Which, btw, I love. Maybe it’s because I have naturally curly hair in RL… though my frizz never manages to look quite this, well… cool? The outfit is Foxes for Uber… the tops and skirts are sold separately and come in lots of colors. I’m not usually into gold, but this I liked enough to overlook the gold (and on the peach it’s kind of a rose gold more than a gold gold which helps). The posters and couch bed thingy (that’s a technical term) are both from tarte at the current Uber… the stars are from tarte from the last Uber. The scroll with the arrow is another of floorplan’s February Collabor88 offerings.

Boho chic

On a personal note, I’m finally off that wretched medication that was making me have near-daily migraines, and I’m feeling a lot better. So expect more from me in March than you got in February!
