Bandana Day 2015

Hair Fair 2015 closes tonight, at 11:59 pm SLT. Today is Bandana Day. If you haven’t gone to Hair Fair yet, or you didn’t get a bandana for Bandana Day, definitely consider going and grabbing one. They’re only L$50 each, they’re 100% donation items and there are a lot of cool options. Mine is from L+N and it’s called Liberty. It came with the torch (my SL sister Isley Oodles made me the stone tablet prop, and my husband made me the pose; neither are for sale anywhere) and I thought it was a really neat idea. Both from a creative perspective, but also because it felt like an empowering thing to me. I think of how we put so much value on hair, particularly on women’s hair, and really why? It’s just another form of idealized beauty. Not that I don’t have fun with hair in SL, because of course I do… and it would definitely be traumatic for me if I ever lost my RL hair because I love it. But at the end of the day, part of that is just another aspect of what we’re conditioned to be used to, what we’re conditioned to find attractive. And that’s all very interesting to me from a sociological/anthropological standpoint. But enough geeking out.

The bottom line here is… Wigs For Kids is a fabulous charity helping children who’ve lost their hair due to illness or medical treatments. Whether those kids choose bandanas or wigs, this charity helps empower them and give them a chance to have something they’ve not chosen to lose. So go buy a bandana, and wear it for the rest of the day! It’s only a few hours!

The necklace and earrings I have on are from Cae, for the brand new monthly fantasy event Illusion Point. My gorgeous skin is the newest face from Glam Affair, Fiona, available at Uber. These stunning eyes are from Buzzeri’s new release at N21. Here’s a closer look.

Flirty Friday

I decided I should take another pass through Collabor88 before it ends in less than 2 weeks. I know Collabor88 was “born” in August, and I’m hoping they’ll be doing a special birthday bash edition. Fingers crossed! In the meantime, there is plenty to be found at the current edition, and it’s really one of my favorite themes ever. Soft, dreamy, romantic colors prevail, and the flirty charm just captivated me.

I fell in love with this top from The Secret Store. It comes in some really fun colors and patterns, but I’ve been in need of some more neutral pieces, so I went with the white. It may be basic, but with the lovely lacey pattern, it’s far from boring! I snagged another pair of the cute SLink add on heels from BOOM, too. I had the red, and decided the white pair was in order! My skirt is also from Collab. I liked the versatility of this piece. It’s sexy, but cute. The leather gives it a bit of edge, and also means it won’t be out of place come September. Don’t hit me! I admit it… I’ve been thinking fall in my fashion lately. Brace yourselves! It’s coming to my blog soon. But for now… oh, by the way my cute pose is another from Pretense for Love Donna Flora. I’ll have lots more from that event soon, too. Stay tuned!

Black & White Summer

My gorgeous skin is also from Collabor88, and it’s another version of Glam Affair’s gorgeous Lulu. I admit to possible bias with this skin since I’ve had more than one person give me the nickname Lulu in SL. This gorgeous hair is from SLink for Hair Fair. Isn’t the ginger shade pretty? I know I usually do a more true red, but lately gingers have been speaking to me, too.

Lulu Belle

I fell in love with the Trompe Loeil shower at Collabor88. It’s absolutely gorgeous, and although I am not using the official SL viewer, for those who are it is materials enabled. I look forward to the day Firestorm has materials, but using the official viewer makes me want to rip my hair out strand by strand, so for now, no materials for this chick! Still, it’s exciting to know I have products that will become even better whenever I do have a viewer I can handle that has materials enabled! I’ll just wait here in my beautiful garden shower for that day to come.

Waiting in the garden

You don’t see it well, but my skin in the above pic is the Pink Fuel skin Doll for Love Donna Flora. Not only is this skin gorgeous and supporting an awesome cause, it also is an incredible deal. For L$300 you get SLink appliers (hand and feet, worn here) and appliers for Lolas, Lush and Puffy breasts. Plus, there are dark and light brow options. The stunning hair I am wearing is one of Exile’s offerings at Hair Fair. I loved how romantic and lush these locks were!

Definitely be sure to check out all of these events. Remember, Hair Fair ends on Sunday. I linked to the Seraphim blog post because they’ve sorted their gallery by sim, and you’ll find slurls to all four sims there!

Exile for Hair Fair

I actually “discovered” Exile hair at last year’s Hair Fair. I’d heard of the store, but never been there. I liked their reds (I’m fussy about my shade, and spoiled by Truth’s Sangria shade) a lot. So naturally, I was very eager to see what Exile would have out this year!

I instantly, and appropriately, fell in love with Crush. The headband is so cute and I love that it’s optional! The red in these pics is not my usual shade, but rather one of the less red reds in Exile’s Dark Reds pack, Tango. I thought it nicely matched up with the medium brows on the adorable Emma skin from Cupcakes.

Emma Skin from Cupcakes

I love the vintage feel of this hair… and the name just suits it so well because it’s cute and romantic, so I tried to capitalize on that with some (hopefully) dreamy feeling images.

Exile for Hair Fair

The other hair from Exile that I snagged was Sea of Love. I had to debate this one at first. I liked it a lot, but I wasn’t sure if it was very “me.” However, then I got this dress from Aura for MySecondBox and realized I needed this hair to go with it!

Sea Shells

The dress, particularly in this color, felt so beachy and I just wanted to play that up with the adorable seashell headband that comes with Sea of Love. Like the headband in Crush, this is a separate attachment. It was the perfect hair for a stroll at the water’s edge.

Sea Dreams

You still have time to go grab these styles – and so many others – at Hair Fair 2012. It runs through this weekend. You will find Exile on the Sand Sim.

Two for one…

This post is a two-for-one special! That’s right, I have some Hair Fair and some One Voice for you in this one. Let’s start with One Voice! For those who haven’t heard, this event has officially raised over $20k for Gala Phoenix’s legal costs while she fights to save her beloved brand Curio.

I loved the Essences Moana skin for this event, and I knew I’d want to blog it. I’m wearing it with a shape called Zoya because my own shape and this skin didn’t really work well together.

Hippy Chic

This skirt is by Lula, and I love it. The colors are awesome and it feels very bohemian, yet still sophisticated. I paired it with a lacey top from Ingenue, and voila… hippy chic!

My ring

The jewelry is from Aster, and it’s really dramatic and beautiful. It’s also part of the One Voice event.

I loved this maxi skirt from Elymode the second I saw it. I was slow to adapt to mesh, but skirts – especially these long, flowy types – really work so much better with mesh! I’m fighting the urge to start blogging fall looks, and this skirt really made me think collegiate. I wanted a cardigan and some glasses. However, I resisted and paired it instead with some summery espadrilles from Gos and a crochet tank from Sn@tch. This hair from Alice Project for the Hair Fair was perfect for this look, and allowed me a smidge more modesty.

Strike A Pose

Hair Fair Meets One Voice

I have more Hair Fair posts – including more from Alice Project – in the works, so stay tuned. You can find Alice Project on the Water sim. One Voice closes on July 22nd, so be sure to go grab anything you might still want. Also, some designers have added/changed their items, to keep it fresh… don’t miss this event!

Wasabi Pills – Hair Fair 2012

I am going to let you in on a little secret… I am really particular when it comes to hair in SL. Maybe it’s because my RL hair is so unruly, with my wild curls. I don’t know. All I know is, I find a lot of hair people love just doesn’t work for me. And when I find a store (or stores) I really like, I tend to get even worse about this. It’s like, I only want to wear hair from those places and it’s hard to get me to experiment with other stores. A few months ago, I bought my first ever hair from Wasabi Pills, and it’s quickly becoming one of my “go to” hair places in SL. So, I was really eager to see what they released for the Hair Fair and I wasn’t disappointed. While I liked most of their releases, I was especially captivated by Zoey. First off, because I have nothing even remotely similar in my inventory, and secondly because I knew it was the hair for this Aura dress I grabbed at faMESHed earlier this month!

Wasabi Pills Zoey for Hair Fair

The hair comes with a hud and the beads and strings are color change. It’s really pretty and sweet. I’m wearing the Rouge shade… normally, I tint my Wasabi Pills reds because I like a deeper, richer red, but I left it in the original for my post so you can see what it looks like “out of the box.”

Wasabi Pills Zoey for Hair Fair

The other WP hair I bought is Brigitte. I was with stalking Nimil during the blogger preview and she tried the demo of this hair on and exclaimed she felt like a go go dancer. I looked at her and immediately agreed, and that sold me on the hair. I bought this dress at last month’s Collabor88 from Schadenfreude and I just love it, but I hadn’t worn it yet because I wasn’t sure how I wanted to style it. And then I found Brigitte, threw on my Kurvaceous boots from Gos and voila! Here are the pics!

Hair Fair!!!

(I wanted to edit this post because Seraphim did such amazing coverage of this event, and it will help you in your shopping! Check out their post here!)

The Hair Fair opens tomorrow!!! The event runs through July 29th, so you’ll have plenty of time to go and grab all sorts of goodies. This is a charity event and proceeds go to Wigs For Kids. This fabulous organization helps benefit children who have lost their hair due to various medical conditions, as well as cancer treatments.

In this post, I want to share some of the awesome Hair Fair 2012 gifts you can find at the event. Later, I’ll be doing posts featuring some of the hair I bought. Freebies are great, and I am very thankful to the designers who worked hard to provide some fabulous gifts… but please also buy some hair, if you can. This charity really deserves some love!

For the sake of both saving time and showing the freebies in fairly true form, I did very little editing on these pics beyond cropping and some smudging of harsh edges. However, before I show you the freebies… here’s a look at the “low lag” freebie outfit provided by DCNY for the event. There are two top options and two pant options. You also get a selection of hairbases from Exile, however I chose to buy this utterly adorable bandana made by Callie Cline of KittyCatS. It was all of $L50, but that money goes to Wigs For Kids and every penny counts. It’s a great way to go low lag and still be stylish, and tons of designers and bloggers (not me, lol) created bandanas you can buy. Mine is the Bengal Sorrel, which is one of several from KittyCatS!

And a close up of the adorable bandana… also, read more about the Bandana Day project here.

Okay, now humor me for a moment while we address lag. They’ve taken some remarkable measures to help reduce lag, the details of which are on the blog. However, any crowded SL event will have lag. You can do your part to help lower the lag by removing scripted objects and wearing a low lag outfit. If you don’t like the official Hair Fair one, create one of your own! I have a default “low lag” look saved in my outfits folder, just for occasions like this one. Furthermore, despite my blogger vanity, I don’t give a rat’s ass about walking around bald or without my AO. I’d rather do my part to help lower lag! My “official” low lag outfit is featured in the other pics. Oh, also… I’m wearing Maitreya flip flops in my pics, but my default low lag look has no shoes or prim feet at all. I’ve seen some people debating on forums or Plurk about this issue, and frankly, it’s just plain silly. If you’re so vain you can’t handle waddling like a newb to help lower lag, skip crowded events. Especially when they are for charity! Okay, off my soapbox now. Which means… FREEBIE TIME!

First up… Hinako had a cute Hair Fair gift in Mocha. I added the Red Mint heart pin mouthie that they had out as a gift. I think this hair would be especially cute on a kid avie. It’s also has a scripted resizer in it, which came in handy because my head is apparently rather huge.

Next… Clawtooth had out a cute style called Cosmic Love in Dusty Black. I like this hair, but I will warn any avs with bigger boobs that it’s likely to go inside you. My boobs are about a 46, with gravity pretty low for mesh, and it still went inside me in most poses. But… it’s free and cute, so really, who can complain?

Milana had out a very cute style, with several color options, as a gift. This shade is called ginger and the hair is called Mel.

At ChiChickie I found a cute freebie, but what stood out especially was the adorable Zen hairpin that came with it. It’s a separate attachment, so you can use it for other hair, too. Also, this hair came with a hud so you get a lot of color choices.

if you’re into dreadlocks, be sure you stop by Discord Designs. They have an awesome mesh hair gift, as you can see below, and you get several color choices and hairbases, too. There’s also more than one style in their freebie bag. This is Jada in Deep Red.

Colors has out a free gift in a ton of, well… colors. I went with the dark brown. This one is really cute, and was one of my favorites.

I had a lot of “wow, I didn’t know that store made hair” while I was walking the sims (which, btw… they did an AMAZING job of laying this event out and it’s SO easy to navigate). Mons was one of those stores! But this freebie, Mare, from there is utterly adorable and comes in multiple colors. I’m wearing the red.

The Most Creative freebie award goes, hands down, to Nashuru, with their Botanical Pigtails gift. This “hair” is so clever, and though I can’t think of a reason I’d ever need it, I also know I will never delete it… because it’s well done, quirky and the second I delete it, I’ll have some reason to want it!

Finally… the Best Hair Fair freebie award goes to Alice Project. Tessa is mesh, and comes in two versions – with and without bangs. It also comes with a mini version of her Nova Hud. You get a great selection of natural colors, and well. It’s just so freakin’ cute. I’m wearing the version with bangs, and I made a dirty joke about this earlier to my friend Nimil, but uhm. Yeah. Anyway. Here’s the pic!

At any rate, if you only make a point to find one freebie at the event, this is definitely the one to find in my opinion!

That is all from me for now. Credits for everything else in the pics can be found down yonder!
