The prodigal blogger returns

Hi! I’m back… and I hope all of you in the US had a wonderful Thanksgiving. Ours was quiet and lovely, just the way I like it.

So today I want to talk about the amazing Tannenbaum Market that opened this past week and runs through December 25th. This event features awesome designers with lovely holiday and winter goodies. There’s also one of the coolest gacha ideas I’ve ever seen… but I’ll get to that in a moment.

First, my outfit. It’s Valentina E. Couture, the sweater top is optional (the dress itself is strapless) and it comes in 4 colors. I chose the evergreen, and paired it with Ingenue’s cozy socks and flats. I love these socks because they have cuffs that are fitted to the Maitreya body (and also SLink Physique, fitted mesh and unrigged versions). I suck at resizing things, and with my fuller figured av, I always have to. The shoes are so cute and they look comfy as hell. I want a pair in RL, tbh. My wreath of lights is from Ohmai, also at Tannenabaum. It’s texture change and there is an unlit version, too.

Tis the season

Now, about the tree and the gachas at Tannenbaum. The tree is undecorated, in the stand, and was made by Botanical, and is available for sale for just L$250. It’s well worth it, as it’s gorgeous. But beyond that, the gachas are ornaments and decor designed especially for this tree! Which makes it easier to decorate. I love this idea so much. I love the concept that friends and SL families can come together, each with their own ornaments and decorate as a group. It adds a level of realism to a virtual world that I never even thought of before, but it’s such a lovely touch. I know some of you are gacha weary, and I feel strongly that they have their time and place (like gacha exclusive events such as The Epiphany or The Arcade), but this one is SO sweet and lovely. It was a brilliant idea, and I hope others have fun with it. I’ll be doing closeups of the ornaments featured on the tree in a later post because they’re too beautiful not to be seen close up.

The stockings on the mantle are from Lost Junction, also at Tannenbaum. I love the shape, the colors… they’re super adorable and realistic looking.

More soon…

Treasure Hunters!

Wizarding Faire ends in mere hours. This is the final day, but I couldn’t resist showing a few last goodies! This adorable dress is from The Little Bat, and it comes in various colors that represent the various houses of Hogwarts. I’m wearing the Gryffindor (or “lion”) colors. Anya Ohmai outdid herself with the creation of these adorable nifflers. Nifflers, as you may recall from The Goblet Of Fire, are adorable little treasure hunters that Hagrid introduces his students to during Care Of Magical Creatures. As you can see, there are many different options, both for rezzing and holding (there’s a second pose for holding not pictured here), and they come in a variety of colors. They are truly adorable, even if you’re not a Harry Potter fan (though that idea makes me sad, lol). My shoes are a new release from fri.day, available at Shiny Shabby. My hair is from Wasabi Pills, for the current (and soon to close) round of FaMESHed.

Treasure Hunters
I also promised in this post to show you the inside of the adorable little build Larkham & Co. did for Wizarding Faire. The stained glass windows are so lovely. The fireplace is empty, and I thought it a perfect place to rezz the floating candles available in The Little Bat’s Wizarding Decor gacha. These actually move, by the way! Also available at Wizarding Faire is this incredibly cool clock from EDYN. It’s based on the Weasley Family clock in the books. Like that clock, you can feature family members on this one! It has a hud and easy instructions, and it’s just SO COOL. So go check that out, along with all the other goodies at Wizarding Faire, before the magic comes to an end later tonight!

The Return of the Raid Your Closet Challenge!

Hi! So, I’ve brought back the Raid Your Closet Challenge! RYCC 3.0 is officially underway. If you missed the original and the sequel, now’s your chance to take part in the latest version. Not familiar with RYCC? Well, here’s a page with lots of info!

The RYCC Page

This challenge requires that everything blogged was in my (and should you choose to participate, your) inventory as of 11:59 pm April 30th, 2015. As in every prior RYCC you are expected to wear an entirely new outfit – something you’ve never blogged/photographed/worn before – each week (or however often you participate), but you can have exceptions. My exceptions include my shape (my own creation) and my eyelases (Mon Cheri’s Falsies, which I wear nearly exclusively). I likely also frequently repeat my SLink mesh hands and feet, though probably not in every post. If you decide to participate, either via Plurk, Flickr or your own blog, just make sure you list your own exceptions, too!

For my first pic, I’m wearing seriously adorable Ohmai Salon hair I bought at last year’s Hair Fair and never wore once. I built the outfit around this hair, and the dress is from Gizza that I bought at Shiny Shabby a couple of rounds back. Without further ado, here are my pics… both taken at Blithe, which is fast becoming a favorite place to take pics!

Daydreamer (RYCC Week 1)

Birds of a feather...

Be sure to join the Flickr group to follow as the challenge progresses and add your own pics. You can also share your blog links in the comments of this post!

My Bungalow: Part 1

I fell in love with the Barnesworth Anubis Carraway Bungalow that was part of Collabor88 in August. It’s a big house, so it took me a while to decorate it! I have a LOT of pics for this house, so I decided to break it down into two posts.

I modified this house a good bit, in terms of textures. Some of the walls I just tinted, and some I used wallpaper on. Unlike some mesh houses, that was possible with this one. It took some trial and error, but it was a lot of fun to do. I like customizing houses, so that they feel more “me.” I never used to do this, but my BFF Rosa got me hooked, and now I love it.

So, here are the pics… or at least the first batch. I’ll try to keep my comments to a minimum. As always, please click through the pics to see them bigger in Flickr. You’ll also find notes on each pic with where each item is from. If I missed something (I hope not!) or you want more info, feel free to ask in the comments here or on Flickr, or IM me in world.

Autumn Daze

Porch

I have to say this… the Carraway comes with several gorgeous built in cabinets and shelves. The best part? They are all functional, meaning they open!

Mantle

I wanted to particularly point out the adorable Friends artwork seen in this next collage because it is an item from Sway’s for the current round of The Arcade, and you only have a few more days to go try to win it!

It's the little things

Live comfortably

This college shows the dining room built in, which I photographed with some doors open, so you could get a better idea for what I mean about what an awesome detail this is.

And everyone was invited

The second post will be coming soon, so keep an eye out for it!

Bandana Day & Love Donna Flora

One of my favorite parts of Hair Fair is Bandana Day. This is done on the last day of Hair Fair, where people are encouraged to lose their hair and don a bandana. The SL community works together to make fabulous bandanas, each of which cost 50L and are for sale on the Hair Fair sims in the Bandana Booths. These bandanas help raise more money for Wigs For Kids, and on top of that are a great way to show solidarity with those who have lost their hair, whether due to medical treatment for an illness, or illness itself. For me, this particular charity is especially emotional because it is to help children. Children fill the world with hope, and hope is its own kind of magic.

There are such a wide variety of styles, ranging from quirky to adorably sweet to glam. The bandana I chose was created by Anya Ohmai, and she shared her personal story via a NC that comes with the bandana. I am not going to share her story here. You need to go buy it, and read about it yourselves! It’s powerful and touching, and it really moved me. I bought this bandana because it was so unique, and so elegant. I thought… who says losing one’s hair means you have to give up on being graceful and sophisticated?! When I saw this Ray Of Light dress SAKIDE has for the Black Market, I knew it was a perfect match to the bandana. Not only did it enchant me with a unique style (and a hud to change dress colors!), but the name of it is one full of hope, and that seemed perfect!

Defiant Grace

My skin is from Glam Affair, and is another of the Lulu skins available at Collabor88 this round. It’s so dramatic and elegant, and I thought the pale tone worked nicely with the black dress and dramatic bandana. Oh, and aren’t my elephant earrings cute? They are from HandVerk for The Boutique. I love elephants!

Tomorrow an event called Love Donna Flora opens. This event is a fundraiser for Squinternet Larnia, the owner of Donna Flora. I do not know Squinternet, and I will be completely honest and say that I don’t own anything from her store, either. So why blog this event? When I read about it, it broke my heart… but at the same time it made me feel grateful that this stranger I do not know, who is going through something none of us should have to face, was surrounded by so much love and support in the SL community. But it’s also personal… you see, when I was about 10 my beloved great aunt finally went to the doctor about a lump she’d discovered in her breast about 18 months earlier. She’d been too scared to face it, and was living in denial. Then she broke her ankle doing something that never should’ve caused a break in the bone. During that visit, she finally came clean about the lump. It turned out that what began as breast cancer had metastasized into bone cancer. Four years later, after many surgeries, chemo treatments and being a guinea pig for a doctor that exploited her in her vulnerable state, she lost her fight. Squinternet’s story made me remember my Aunt Dorothy’s story… and I so badly want for Squinternet to get a much happier ending. It doesn’t matter that we’ve never met. I am cheering for her. So, here I am… and this is why I wanted to blog for this event, and to do my small part to help spread the word.

These pics combine items from both Love Donna Flora and Hair Fair. It seemed appropriate to unite these two great causes in one look. The beautiful dress I am wearing is from Miamai for LDF, and it comes in a variety of stunning colors. My hair is one of Clawtooth’s Hair Fair releases. I loved the casual elegance of this hair. It felt like it would be very versatile! The pose is from Pretense, and is another item you can snag at Love Donna Flora.

Miamai for Love Donna Flora

The skin I’m wearing is Katya. Katya new from Glam Affair, and is available at The Boutique. Few people know this, but Katya was my nickname in high school. My best friend Laura and I had nicknames for each other. She was Skye and I was Katya. I still love the name, and it makes me miss her (she’s an “off the grid” type)! She’d approve of this look, I think.

Hope

Hair Fair runs through July 28th (that day is Bandana Day, so go grab yours today in preparation), and I will have more from there tomorrow (or maybe later today). Love Donna Flora opens tomorrow and runs through August 11th, so be sure to check out both of these events while you can. You get to shop and help people at the same time, and really… does shopping get much better than when you know it’s supporting a good cause?

Summerfest Last Call!

Summerfest is an awesome event that is nearly over. You have just a few short hours left to go grab some great goodies, including the oh-so-popular Ohmai pet otters (and otter avs) you may have been seeing all over Flickr. I’m just gonna shut up and post pics ’cause you need to hurry and get there NOW!

My adorable sunglasses are from Noodles for Summerfest. I shot this pic on the beach at the event, where the adorable otters are hanging out near the water’s edge. My outfit is from another event that ends this weekend, My Attic. It’s only L$95 for both the tank and the jeans and there are a bunch of great colors.

It's all about the otters

My skin is also from Summerfest. It’s Glam Affair’s Summer. I’ll have a better shot of that skin later in this post. But first, a quick closeup of my nails and the adorable Noodles charm bracelet from The Arcade.

Summer Vacation

Also from My Attic, this adorable dress from SySy’s. It comes in so many colors your head will spin and you’ll have a hard time choosing. My jewelry is from Handverk, also at My Attic, as is the hair from Exile and the nails for my SLink hands (from Flair). My adorable peep toe shoes are a SLink add on shoe for the medium feet from Ingenue at Collabor88.

Pretty In Peach

Okay, and here’s the closeup of Summer I promised. The freckles on the face are just so perfectly adorable.

Summer by Glam Affair

Be sure to go check out My Attic, The Arcade and Summerfest before they end this weekend! Start with Summerfest, since it ends tonight!
