Two for one…

This post is a two-for-one special! That’s right, I have some Hair Fair and some One Voice for you in this one. Let’s start with One Voice! For those who haven’t heard, this event has officially raised over $20k for Gala Phoenix’s legal costs while she fights to save her beloved brand Curio.

I loved the Essences Moana skin for this event, and I knew I’d want to blog it. I’m wearing it with a shape called Zoya because my own shape and this skin didn’t really work well together.

Hippy Chic

This skirt is by Lula, and I love it. The colors are awesome and it feels very bohemian, yet still sophisticated. I paired it with a lacey top from Ingenue, and voila… hippy chic!

My ring

The jewelry is from Aster, and it’s really dramatic and beautiful. It’s also part of the One Voice event.

I loved this maxi skirt from Elymode the second I saw it. I was slow to adapt to mesh, but skirts – especially these long, flowy types – really work so much better with mesh! I’m fighting the urge to start blogging fall looks, and this skirt really made me think collegiate. I wanted a cardigan and some glasses. However, I resisted and paired it instead with some summery espadrilles from Gos and a crochet tank from Sn@tch. This hair from Alice Project for the Hair Fair was perfect for this look, and allowed me a smidge more modesty.

Hair Fair Meets One Voice

I have more Hair Fair posts – including more from Alice Project – in the works, so stay tuned. You can find Alice Project on the Water sim. One Voice closes on July 22nd, so be sure to go grab anything you might still want. Also, some designers have added/changed their items, to keep it fresh… don’t miss this event!

Wasabi Pills – Hair Fair 2012

I am going to let you in on a little secret… I am really particular when it comes to hair in SL. Maybe it’s because my RL hair is so unruly, with my wild curls. I don’t know. All I know is, I find a lot of hair people love just doesn’t work for me. And when I find a store (or stores) I really like, I tend to get even worse about this. It’s like, I only want to wear hair from those places and it’s hard to get me to experiment with other stores. A few months ago, I bought my first ever hair from Wasabi Pills, and it’s quickly becoming one of my “go to” hair places in SL. So, I was really eager to see what they released for the Hair Fair and I wasn’t disappointed. While I liked most of their releases, I was especially captivated by Zoey. First off, because I have nothing even remotely similar in my inventory, and secondly because I knew it was the hair for this Aura dress I grabbed at faMESHed earlier this month!

The hair comes with a hud and the beads and strings are color change. It’s really pretty and sweet. I’m wearing the Rouge shade… normally, I tint my Wasabi Pills reds because I like a deeper, richer red, but I left it in the original for my post so you can see what it looks like “out of the box.”

The other WP hair I bought is Brigitte. I was with stalking Nimil during the blogger preview and she tried the demo of this hair on and exclaimed she felt like a go go dancer. I looked at her and immediately agreed, and that sold me on the hair. I bought this dress at last month’s Collabor88 from Schadenfreude and I just love it, but I hadn’t worn it yet because I wasn’t sure how I wanted to style it. And then I found Brigitte, threw on my Kurvaceous boots from Gos and voila! Here are the pics!

More from One Voice!

I never did get around to blogging yesterday, but here’s some more from One Voice! Again, I’ll try to avoid being wordy (it’s not easy for me, I like to gab).

First up, is this adorable dress by my very own SL sister AliannaMarie GossipGirl of Insatiable Fashions. I love the colors and unique feel of this dress. I know a lot of people are all anti-sculpties now, but this skirt is actually very easy to fit because of the asymmetry, and it moves well because of that. I was able to use a lot of poses with it without any trouble! And it’s just too cute to not have, especially for summer.

All dressed up...

I paired it with a clutch from Izzie’s… I rarely think to add bags in SL, but this was adorable and I had to have it. I also tossed on these shoes from N Core, and lemme just say. Wow. They are gorgeous, and so well made, but I must confess… my RL feet hurt looking at them. Heh. This is why I love SL. I can’t wear heels at all in RL. And would ya look at these babies???

Hot Shoes

My latest skin obsession is with Izzie’s skins. They are so fresh, pretty and come with lots of makeup layer options, which makes them very versatile. She also has brown, black, blonde and RED (!!!) brow options built into the skin (no tattoo layers) and a cleavage option for each one (again, not tattoo layers). For those who like freckles, there are tattoo add-ons, too! So imagine my delight when I found yesterday morning that Izzie had released a skin for the One Voice fundraiser! I had to have it. It’s appropriately named Gala and it is so pretty.

Gala Skin by Izzie's

I’m wearing it here with the smokey eyeshadow and raspberry lip options… there are five eyeshadows and five lipsticks. Definitely try it!

Moving on… coldLogic is a store where I want every new release and could seriously spend a small fortune. They released this sassy top for One Voice and I ran to snag it. I’ve also been eyeing these pants for a while and they were a perfect match for the top, so it was a “duh” kinda moment. I finished the look off with my favorite Gos buckle ballet flats. I love these Pimp Your Pumps shoes. So customizable!

Black & White

Again, I’m wearing Gala by Izzie’s. This time, I left the lips bare and kept the smokey eyes. Also, not from One Voice, but so cute are the Cracked Nails Izzie’s released recently. I love them.

Who, me

Those earrings are by Atomic from Collabor88. Once I get through One Voice and Hair Fair (eeeeeek, so excited!) I will post some more Collabor88 stuff but I loved these earrings and felt the finished off my look.

That’s all for now! More soon. 🙂

PS. As of yesterday, Gala updated that One Voice has already hit the halfway point on helping with the legal fees to fight for her brand! Congrats, Gala… and thank you to all who have supported her, and in doing so, taken a stand for creator rights!

One Voice is open!!!

One Voice has officially opened! There have been a few technical issues, and many of the designers will be setting up their items in their mainstores, too. Please be patient as they resolve the issues. Trust me… it’s an event you don’t want to miss! Not only is it awesome and inspiring to see so many designers come together to help a fellow creator in need, there are just so many goodies to be had! The sim is also just so pretty and peaceful, and the organizers did a great job laying out all the vendors! Salome Strangelove has also been working hard on a directory of stores participating, so you can check this out, too. Here’s a pic of the sim, near the landing point, that I took last night.

One Voice Sim

I’ve been taking pics like mad, and I don’t want to be too wordy so you can just get to them all. Credits will be at the end as always…

Summer Gaze

Harvest Purple Moon

One Song

On a final note for this post (there will be more posts and there are more pics are already up on flickr)… our voices, when joined as one in chorus, are stronger, and our message becomes harder to ignore. 🙂

One Voice

As much of the Grid knows by now, Gala Phoenix, the incredibly talented owner of Curio, is dealing with every creator’s worst nightmare. Her legal fees to sort out this unbelievable mess are expected to be somewhere in the range of $20k… and yes, that’s in dollars, not Lindens. Gala, like many creators, relies on SL as her main source of income.

I have long loved Curio skins. I own about 7 Curio fatpacks, and I have alts that wear her skins, too. I’ve used them in a bunch of shape ads, and they’re often the skins worn in our pose ads, as well. Needless to say, I am deeply saddened by what Gala’s gone through. It is especially horrible given that this started when she tried to stand up for her brand. There are now other creators who say that Hush is using parts of their skins, but I wonder how many will feel like they can take the chance to file a DMCA on Hush, given what happened when Gala did so back in March. Meanwhile, Hush is still open for business, while Curio is not.

But here’s the positive side of this atrocious mess… some very talented designers have come together to donate their own work and profits to help Gala’s legal fund. This isn’t just about Gala. It’s about the entire community of legitimate, hardworking Second Life designers. It could be anyone dealing with what Gala has had to handle in the past months. This event is called One Voice, and it opens on July 9th and runs through July 16th. What began as an intimate gathering of Gala’s friends and fellow creators, to be held on the Truth District sim, quickly blossomed into a major event… one so large it will now have its own sim. This is the good part of Second Life. This is a community coming together to help raise awareness of this horrific situation, and also to help Gala cover her legal expenses so that she can fight for her brand, for her many years of hard work. The event is called One Voice, and all the vendors will be donating 50-100% of their sales to Gala Phoenix to help her through this challenging time.

one.voice logo 512

Some have questioned why anyone wants to help Gala. Some have said she should’ve known better than to rely solely on Second Life for her income. Some feel this detracts from the Second Life community raising money for more “legitimate” causes. If you’re one of those, please do not comment on this post. I moderate comments and I will delete any negative ones. This is an amazing event. The designers participating all understand that it could just as easily be any of them going through this, and they’ve chosen – of their own free will – to help Gala. How anyone could justify being negative about such an awesome display of support for a fellow creator is beyond me.

And now… without further ado, I’d like to present the first set of pics I’ve taken using items that will be available at One Voice when it opens to the public on July 9, 2012.

One Voice - Listen

This post is significant. This is literally the first time since I joined SL in 2009 that I’ve ever worn a shape I did not make. My RL husband and I joined together, but I had registration issues. It was several days before I was able to join and by then, he’d figured out how to modify his default shape. He taught me how, and so from my first day in Second Life, I’ve always and only worn shapes I made myself (even when I so shouldn’t have, heh). Embody was born partly out of that… I was making so many shapes for fun, it became a business. Rad even gave me a name for my SL profession, and I’m therefore a professional “Shapestress.”

But it is hard to get shapes blogged, even when they are for charity events. I know because we’ve used shapes in charity events, and the times they were actually blogged were few. I get that. Bloggers get really attached to their shapes. Non-bloggers do, too! Even I was hesitant to try mesh for a long time because of the whole “Idonotwannachangemyshape” aspect of mesh. So, I get it, but it also made me really want to blog a shape from the event if one of the designers was generous enough to share them with the bloggers.

So, I’m stepping outside of my comfort zone to blog this shape from Anna’s Shapes. I actually think it’s a very cute shape, and obviously if I’ve always worn my own, I’m bound to be picky. It’s dramatically different from my own “style,” which I think is cool. I mean, if I am going to blog someone else’s shape, it may as well be one that steps outside the boundaries of my usual look!

I paired the shape with this skin from Al Vulo, which is also part of the One Voice event. The dining set is from Adoration Home & Garden, and it’s really cute. There are a variety of place setting options to choose from, and you can rezz food using the placemats. There’s also a pose that’s hilarious called “drunk” and I definitely recommend trying that one out. It’s animated, and a static picture just can’t do it justice, but I laughed really hard when I saw it! Here’s a prelude to that pose, though… I do love some white wine!

One Voice - Share

The dress is from Sleeping Koala, and will be available at the One Voice event. It’s so darn cute, but the back detail in particular is spectacular. I love detailed back work like this… and I definitely wanted to highlight Evie’s talent. I am so impressed by Ms. Evelyn Hartshon. She works so hard, and she’s so dedicated. Not just to her work as a designer, but just in general, in building an SL community and I really admire her for that! I paired Evie’s pretty dress with a gorgeous jewelry set from Sax Shepherd Designs.

One Voice - Stand Up

More soon from this event… and thank you to the designers who were generous enough to share their work with the bloggers. It does help to spread the word when we’re able to promote events in advance of them even opening!
