My Bungalow: Part 1

I fell in love with the Barnesworth Anubis Carraway Bungalow that was part of Collabor88 in August. It’s a big house, so it took me a while to decorate it! I have a LOT of pics for this house, so I decided to break it down into two posts.

I modified this house a good bit, in terms of textures. Some of the walls I just tinted, and some I used wallpaper on. Unlike some mesh houses, that was possible with this one. It took some trial and error, but it was a lot of fun to do. I like customizing houses, so that they feel more “me.” I never used to do this, but my BFF Rosa got me hooked, and now I love it.

So, here are the pics… or at least the first batch. I’ll try to keep my comments to a minimum. As always, please click through the pics to see them bigger in Flickr. You’ll also find notes on each pic with where each item is from. If I missed something (I hope not!) or you want more info, feel free to ask in the comments here or on Flickr, or IM me in world.

Porch

I have to say this… the Carraway comes with several gorgeous built in cabinets and shelves. The best part? They are all functional, meaning they open!

Mantle

I wanted to particularly point out the adorable Friends artwork seen in this next collage because it is an item from Sway’s for the current round of The Arcade, and you only have a few more days to go try to win it!

It's the little things

Live comfortably

This college shows the dining room built in, which I photographed with some doors open, so you could get a better idea for what I mean about what an awesome detail this is.

The second post will be coming soon, so keep an eye out for it!

More from Skin Fair!

If you haven’t been to Skin Fair yet, you still have time! The even runs through March 31st, so be sure to get there before it closes. Today I have two skins available at Skin Fair to show you. One thing I love about blogging events like Skin Fair is the chance to discover great stores I didn’t know before the event. I wasn’t familiar with either of these stores, but I will definitely be checking them out regularly now!

First up, from Anymore, is Hazel. This skin is so pretty and soft. It has a youthful feel, and I decided to capitalize on that with a quirky, semi-dorky look. My glasses are from Mon Tissu. The gorgeous necklace is from Cae and is called Sakura. It’s currently available at a new event called The Boutique, brought to you by The Liaison Collaborative. The eyes I am wearing in both of these looks are also a new item, from IKON, at The Boutique. Also, if you’re curious about the decor items, they are tagged with notes if you click through to Flickr, and you can feel free to ask questions.

Anymore Dorky

I paired the skin with hair from Exile, the adorable saddle shoes Tres Blah has out at Collabor88. A lot of people have complained the Tres Blah shoes were too expensive. I have to admit I hesitated when I saw the L$388 price tag on them, but I am a sucker for saddle shoes and these are so cute and unique. They are well done, and I am likely going to go back and grab another pair. No, they aren’t “cheap,” but the quality and creativity is very high, and that counts for a lot for me. My pants are from Greymoon and were available at The Outlet. I’m not sure if that round is over, but if it is, Lyssa usually releases her items in her mainstore after, so either way look for them! My top is so cute, right? It’s from One Bad Pixel’s recent release, and I am in love. It has a hud that lets you change the color of the belt and the shirt that’s under the sweater (just to clarify, it’s all one piece – you can’t wear just the sweater or just the shirt). I’m a sucker for any item that has this sort of control. It makes a piece so much more versatile and an “investment.” Oh, the cute pose in this pic is from Grafica and is part of their Pose Fair release called per donna! I’m excited for Pose Fair!

Anymore

The second skin I want to show you is from Envious. Bella is appropriately beautiful. I love the purple eyeshadow on this one. I love purple. The blushing cheeks on this skin inspired me to blog it as a bride! Plus, I’ll use any excuse to marry Rad again, even if it’s just for pics. 😀 The gorgeous gown I have on is from Sakide. The dress is mesh, but the lacey, sheer top part is a jacket layer you wear under it. The dress works without it, too. But I loved the look, it was so soft and detailed. I felt utterly feminine and girly wearing this gown!

Bridal fantasies

The gown has a secret, seductive side, though… and I had to be sure to show you that, too.

Now and forever

Finally, in this last pic you can see the LaGyo headband I have on with the alternate veiled option. It felt so retro and mysterious, so I knew I had to use it. I will warn you that I had some trouble finding hair that worked, and only came up with this LeLutka option after I saw the lovely Oakley Foxtrot wearing it with the same headband (so ty Oakley!).

I take thee

And last… I have to share this one, even though for blogging purposes you can’t really see anything. I just loved this WL so much, I had to snap the drama shot, too.

You are my dream

What can I say? Our RL/SL wedding anniversary is coming up (April 6th in both worlds)… I guess I was feeling sappy!

Tis the season!

There are so many fun, festive things happening in SL right now. It’s kind of overwhelming, but in a good way!

The RFL Christmas Expo is one of these things. I have to say, they’ve done a beautiful job designing the sims for this event. You can see some of the amazing work in this photo gallery by Wildstar Beaumont.

In the first two pics, you can see the gorgeous Christmas fireplace that Prime has out for the Expo. It’s beautifully detailed, and has adorable little side seats with built in poses. My cute little Christmas tree earrings from Sax Shepherd Designs are also a RFL Christmas Expo find!

Christmas Contemplation

This is a must have piece for any Christmas decor fan! My mesh PJs are from Cracked Mirror, in Sprinkles, and you can find them at The Arcade. I love these jammies and I have them in a lot of colors, so you’ll likely see ’em again! The adorable ponytails are Dolly in blood from a recent Truth hair release.

Waiting for Santa

At The Arcade, it seems they tried to keep things more winter-y and less Christmas-y. Since not everyone celebrates Christmas this makes sense. But there are some adorable festive items to be had nonetheless, if you get so lucky! Here’s a look at some of my favorites. The adorable clock is one of many from Sway’s. They represent different seasons, and they are all seriously cute. The snowglobe with the pretty little cardinals is from A.D.D. Andel! and it’s one of the rares. I absolutely adored this one, and I knew it had to go on my mantle right away! Like the Sway’s clocks, the snowglobes come in many different “scenes” that are seasonal. I know I will be swapping snowglobes all year! The adorable Welcome sign is one of What Next’s items. It’s also a rare one, and while not overtly Christmas-y, with the snowy scene and green and red trim, it’s a clear match to my Christmas cabin!

Arcade Christmas Collage

In this next picture, you can see my little Christmas village. Pilot has these adorable little houses and landscaping items in their Arcade gachas. There’s a table to display it on that is rare, but after like 20+ tries, I decided to give up and make my own version of the village on my What Next Laurel Cottage console table. I used the What Next Amalfi string fairylights to spruce it up and make it more festive, and I was pleased with how it looked when I was done. The top left building is the rare Primrose Cottage, which is very cute, but to be honest, I love the Springfield one on the right even more. I can’t believe the level of detail work in these little houses. They are gorgeous. They are also relatively low prim/land impact (still not used to using LI!), so they are a great way to make your home more festive without taking up a ton of prims!

That’s all she wrote, folks… more from me soon, though.

Merge of seasons…

I live in Colorado, and I’m at 9,000 feet. Seasons here are somewhat odd, often fleeting (winter aside!), and tend to overlap. I remember one year, on the last day of summer, we had ten inches of snow, and many of the aspen trees were already in full autumn gold. I actually wrote a poem. Since the poem and this blog post share a title, I thought I’d share.

On this last day of summer, brilliant golds
mix with verdant leaves on the branches of aspens
As they whisper in the cold breeze,
freshly fallen snow softly slips
to the carpet of white below the graceful boughs

At any rate, I’ve had it “snowing” at my house in SL for a few weeks already, and last week I decided it was time for that snow to accumulate. The result is autumn-meets-winter coziness. I even confess there might be a few Christmasy things about already. What can I say? I’m a sucker for decorating.

My house is the Mt. Tabor cabin, which I’ve dubbed Bluebird Cabin, from Funky Junk. I wanted a version I could use year round, and the owner of Funky Junk (Ulaa Coronet) is one of the nicest builders ever. She graciously made me a version with plain trim, as the “official” version has vivid, Christmasy green trim. My furniture and decor comes from a lot of stores, but mainly What Next & LISP. If you click through on the pictures, you can hover over them on Flickr to see notes about where each item is from. Because of the amount of furniture sets and items used, I’m not naming each specific piece, but if you see something and want to know the name, either leave me a comment here or on Flickr and I will happily share!

Without further ado… my home. In this first picture, you can see my What Next Bear Canyon camp set. I love this set so much.

Front

One thing I really wanted in a house was enough room to have an office area… this is my living room/office area.

Living Room Collage

Fireplace Collage

Here’s another view, of my LISP shelf with a cute little teacup kitten on it. The books you see here, and in many places around my home, are from Garden Of Dreams. You get a ton of styles, and as someone who loves to read, I had to have them.

Living Room 3

This is my dining area, which is also home to my adorable LISP piano. I really wanted room for it, so while it may be an unconventional location, I was happy I could make it work!

Dining Room Collage

This house, like many of the Funky Junk homes, has a cute little loft. What makes this loft special, though, is there are French doors to an upstairs deck! I love that. I have an upstairs deck in RL and it’s pretty cool to be out on it, regardless of the seasons. I use this as a “visiting space” for my SL baby sister Isley, and you can see some of her belongings in the pics, too.

Loft Collage

This is the bedroom, which has an adorable windowseat with a built in pillow that has poses. By the way, the snow you see falling outside is actually an effect built into this home! You can turn snow on or off, without having to use an outdoor particle effect. Those are always annoying since they go inside any buildings. This way, you get snow without the indoor snow!

Bedroom Collage

Finally, here’s the back of the house. One of the things that really drew me to the house was all the porch space, front and back, as well as that upper deck.

Back Porch

If you’re looking for a great little cabin you can use year round, I definitely recommend this one! The prim snow on the outside can be removed, making this cute log home very versatile. I’ll be using this one for a long time to come!

Cinema!

I was very excited to have the chance to take a sneak peek at the Cinema venue. This build is possibly the most impressive, beautiful, richly detailed of any Second Life event I’ve been to, and for that reason in this first post I am sharing just pictures I took of the build.

Box Office

The snack bar is really amazing. Click the menu to get wearable props, each with the names of the event sponsors. This was such a creative, cute way to give those sponsors their due!

Snacks 2

All of the stores can be found in the various themed theatres. You’ll find Sci Fi, Romance, XXX, Film Noir, Horror, Action/Adventure and Musical/Fantasy. In other words, there’s truly something at Cinema to appeal to every taste. Then there is the adorable theater for the last breedable to hit the grid, Fennux. These critters, inspired by fennec foxes, are seriously cute. But don’t take my word for it… check out this guy, who was taking in a film as I walked by.

Fennux

I had tremendous fun exploring all the stores, and I have snagged so many amazing things I can’t wait to share with you. But alas, ever post must end… so those goodies will have to wait for another post!
