Shoetopia is almost here!

Shoetopia has to be one of the year’s most highly anticipated events, and it opens later this week! This is a charity event that benefits Soles 4 Souls, and I’ve seen a preview of the build and it’s stunning. In addition to some of SL’s finest shoe creators, there is a gacha component (because we all need our gacha fix) that will feature a wide variety of items.

I know I am really exited about this event. In this post, I present to you one of the many items that will be available at Shoetopia when it opens November 15th. These adorable flats are from Sax Shepherd Designs, and they come in a wide variety of colors and texture options. They also have a version for SLink feet and a version for system feet, so those of you who aren’t SLink feet wearers can still buy these adorable shoes. They’re like what would result if a saddle shoe and a Mary Jane got together and had a baby. I’m a huge fan of both saddle shoes and Mary Janes, and so I just love these! I am wearing the SLink version, btw.

Shoetopia Preview: Sax Shepherd Designs

I recently bought this beautiful Barnesworth Anubis house at The Garden event (now out at the Mainstore). The minute I saw it, I knew I needed it. I love these rustic style homes, especially for autumn and winter, and I think this will be a lot of fun to decorate for the holidays. Right now you only get to see the outside because the inside, well… it’s cluttered (and not in a good way) with furniture and, uhm, moving boxes (hah).

I am wearing a sweatshirt from Mon Tissu that’s been on my personal “to buy” list for ages. I decided to treat myself to something (that wasn’t from an event, as has been the case so much lately), so I went and checked out my Wishlist to remind me of what I’ve been wanting. I don’t know if you’ve seen the SL Wishlist website, but it’s awesome. I find it an easier way to keep track of the things I want to buy in the future than using the Marketplace favorites list. If you don’t have one of these yet, check it out! With the holidays coming, it can be a helpful thing to use to help friends out with gift buying. I’ve been told more than a few times by my friends that they don’t ever know what to give me because of my blogging. I know it’s hard to shop for my fellow blogger friends, so I figured this is a cool, free and fun way to keep track of my future “must-haves” and if someone is generous enough to give me a gift off it, I’m very grateful. Chrome has an extension for it, and you just click a little box from the Marketplace page to add things to your list. It’s really handy when you’re browsing!

Finally, my new eyes are from A.D.D. Andel! I don’t typically wear mesh eyes. See, I have this nasty habit of wearing folders and I just know me… I’d wind up bald and stark naked with 20 pairs of eyes on. On top of that, I am the world’s fussiest person when it comes to SL eyes, and for ages now (probably well over a year) the only eyes I’ve liked are from IKON. But I have always thought that it might be fun to play with heterochromia, and have different colored eyes in SL. My RL great-grandmother had heterochromia, and she had one grey-blue and one hazel-brown eye. I always thought it was lovely, and I really think these eyes are, too. My gorgeous, adorable skin is Elvi from Glam Affair. This is a Collabor88 release. There are a lot of makeups available for Elvi, in the lovely America tone at the new round of Collabor88 so definitely check it out!

I will have more from Shoetopia soon! Be sure to check back.

Bubblegum & Sass

So, since Candy Fair has a lot of fun clothing, skins and makeup I wanted to try a completely different look for a change. I’m using Axix’s Sweet Divan prop/pose set from Candy Fair in these pics. There are two versions. One is decorated, and one is not. The cushions and sofa are all texture change, too! My headband is also from Candy Fair, by 1 Hundred. It comes in lots of pretty colors perfect for your inner candy princess.

Something Sweet

My skin is from Birdy for Candy Fair, and it is this skin with the pink eyebrows that inspired my blog titled. I paired the skin with one of the gacha lip glosses from essences, also at Candy Fair. This is one of the rare versions, and I thought it was just so much fun!

Bubblegum & Sass

My top is part of Sakide’s Candy Fair outfit. I paired it with these cute new shorts from BOOM. The adorable wooden sign on the wall is one of the Beach Street items for Candy Fair.

Last call for Collabor88

A new round of Collabor88 will open this weekend, so be sure to go down and grab the many, many birthday goodies before the current 2nd anniversary edition ends! Here are some of the amazing things you can grab.

This “dress” from Tee*fy is actually two pieces, allowing you to mix and match. They are sold separately, so you can buy the color combos that most appeal to you. I love the top, with it’s plunging neckline. My adorable peacock – whom I named Polly, of course – is from MishMish and there are multiple versions and color options. The version I have in this pic is an attachment you actually wear. Be warned, though. You may die of cute when you remove the peacock and it says “I’m going to miss you, (your name here)!”

My jewelry is from Noodles, and is also at Collabor88. This set is named in honor of Millie Gears, who was a friend to so many in the SL community, and whom we sadly recently lost far too soon. It’s a beautiful tribute to her.

The desert calls to me

Another Collab item I fell hard for is this hair from Monso. I believe it has materials enabled, but alas if I were to attempt to use the official viewer I might have a breakdown. Still, even without materials, it is absolutely stunning. I love the depth of the textures on this hair, and the style is just utterly adorable. My skin is also utterly adorable, and it’s the new full release of Cho from Essences. Cho was released with brand new, stunning skin tones. I am wearing Peche. I don’t think I’ve ever owned a cuter skin than Cho. I feel slightly exotic and beyond cute when I wear it. And admittedly, a bit young. Which, let’s face it, ain’t a bad thing.

I wanted a slightly exotic setting for these pics, so I went over to Izzie’s Mainstore. Izzie always done an amazing job with her sim, and it is currently set to look like an African desert, and I just loved this little house I found there.

I am not sure when Collabor88 will close for setup for the next round, so hurry and head on over! This is truly a not-to-be-missed edition.

I know I’ve been a bit quiet lately. I was battling some feeling yucky in RL, and I also just took over another event in SL, so I’ve been a bit busy. But I’m feeling better, and I am gearing up to show off all of my wonderful Arcade goodies, so stay tuned!

Happy weekend!

Tis the season!

There are so many fun, festive things happening in SL right now. It’s kind of overwhelming, but in a good way!

The RFL Christmas Expo is one of these things. I have to say, they’ve done a beautiful job designing the sims for this event. You can see some of the amazing work in this photo gallery by Wildstar Beaumont.

In the first two pics, you can see the gorgeous Christmas fireplace that Prime has out for the Expo. It’s beautifully detailed, and has adorable little side seats with built in poses. My cute little Christmas tree earrings from Sax Shepherd Designs are also a RFL Christmas Expo find!

Christmas Contemplation

This is a must have piece for any Christmas decor fan! My mesh PJs are from Cracked Mirror, in Sprinkles, and you can find them at The Arcade. I love these jammies and I have them in a lot of colors, so you’ll likely see ’em again! The adorable ponytails are Dolly in blood from a recent Truth hair release.

Waiting for Santa

At The Arcade, it seems they tried to keep things more winter-y and less Christmas-y. Since not everyone celebrates Christmas this makes sense. But there are some adorable festive items to be had nonetheless, if you get so lucky! Here’s a look at some of my favorites. The adorable clock is one of many from Sway’s. They represent different seasons, and they are all seriously cute. The snowglobe with the pretty little cardinals is from A.D.D. Andel! and it’s one of the rares. I absolutely adored this one, and I knew it had to go on my mantle right away! Like the Sway’s clocks, the snowglobes come in many different “scenes” that are seasonal. I know I will be swapping snowglobes all year! The adorable Welcome sign is one of What Next’s items. It’s also a rare one, and while not overtly Christmas-y, with the snowy scene and green and red trim, it’s a clear match to my Christmas cabin!

Arcade Christmas Collage

In this next picture, you can see my little Christmas village. Pilot has these adorable little houses and landscaping items in their Arcade gachas. There’s a table to display it on that is rare, but after like 20+ tries, I decided to give up and make my own version of the village on my What Next Laurel Cottage console table. I used the What Next Amalfi string fairylights to spruce it up and make it more festive, and I was pleased with how it looked when I was done. The top left building is the rare Primrose Cottage, which is very cute, but to be honest, I love the Springfield one on the right even more. I can’t believe the level of detail work in these little houses. They are gorgeous. They are also relatively low prim/land impact (still not used to using LI!), so they are a great way to make your home more festive without taking up a ton of prims!

That’s all she wrote, folks… more from me soon, though.

Flight of the Fairy

Alice Project Infinity hair comes with this absolutely awesome mini-hud. It’s color change, and has sections you can change. It even has a tint hud. I decided to show the flexibility of this hud by deviating from my usual red hair. But what color to go with when there are so many options?

I decided I wanted something wild and unnatural. Then I remembered I had this cute Ivy Nymph costume from SSD (at One Voice), and I decided to be a little fairy. I bought the adorable, versatile Helga hair at Hair Fair last week… and I decided to go with a baby blue with touches of mint green, to match the Ivy Nymph details. Rad made these Aerial poses a while ago, but I haven’t ever had much of a cause to use them, until now! I tossed on one of my teen shapes, and the beautiful Georgie skin from Al Vulo (also at One Voice).

The question then became where to shoot the pics. I wanted someplace fanciful and pretty. I remembered I was with my friend on a sim called Chakryn Forest recently, and I returned and, sure enough, it was the perfect place! Here are the pics from my midnight flight of fancy…

Alice Project is on the Flower Sim at the Hair Fair. One Voice is here, and will remain open until 11:59 pm SLT on Sunday, July 22nd! So hurry, you’re almost out of time!

One Voice

As much of the Grid knows by now, Gala Phoenix, the incredibly talented owner of Curio, is dealing with every creator’s worst nightmare. Her legal fees to sort out this unbelievable mess are expected to be somewhere in the range of $20k… and yes, that’s in dollars, not Lindens. Gala, like many creators, relies on SL as her main source of income.

I have long loved Curio skins. I own about 7 Curio fatpacks, and I have alts that wear her skins, too. I’ve used them in a bunch of shape ads, and they’re often the skins worn in our pose ads, as well. Needless to say, I am deeply saddened by what Gala’s gone through. It is especially horrible given that this started when she tried to stand up for her brand. There are now other creators who say that Hush is using parts of their skins, but I wonder how many will feel like they can take the chance to file a DMCA on Hush, given what happened when Gala did so back in March. Meanwhile, Hush is still open for business, while Curio is not.

But here’s the positive side of this atrocious mess… some very talented designers have come together to donate their own work and profits to help Gala’s legal fund. This isn’t just about Gala. It’s about the entire community of legitimate, hardworking Second Life designers. It could be anyone dealing with what Gala has had to handle in the past months. This event is called One Voice, and it opens on July 9th and runs through July 16th. What began as an intimate gathering of Gala’s friends and fellow creators, to be held on the Truth District sim, quickly blossomed into a major event… one so large it will now have its own sim. This is the good part of Second Life. This is a community coming together to help raise awareness of this horrific situation, and also to help Gala cover her legal expenses so that she can fight for her brand, for her many years of hard work. The event is called One Voice, and all the vendors will be donating 50-100% of their sales to Gala Phoenix to help her through this challenging time.

one.voice logo 512

Some have questioned why anyone wants to help Gala. Some have said she should’ve known better than to rely solely on Second Life for her income. Some feel this detracts from the Second Life community raising money for more “legitimate” causes. If you’re one of those, please do not comment on this post. I moderate comments and I will delete any negative ones. This is an amazing event. The designers participating all understand that it could just as easily be any of them going through this, and they’ve chosen – of their own free will – to help Gala. How anyone could justify being negative about such an awesome display of support for a fellow creator is beyond me.

And now… without further ado, I’d like to present the first set of pics I’ve taken using items that will be available at One Voice when it opens to the public on July 9, 2012.

One Voice - Listen

This post is significant. This is literally the first time since I joined SL in 2009 that I’ve ever worn a shape I did not make. My RL husband and I joined together, but I had registration issues. It was several days before I was able to join and by then, he’d figured out how to modify his default shape. He taught me how, and so from my first day in Second Life, I’ve always and only worn shapes I made myself (even when I so shouldn’t have, heh). Embody was born partly out of that… I was making so many shapes for fun, it became a business. Rad even gave me a name for my SL profession, and I’m therefore a professional “Shapestress.”

But it is hard to get shapes blogged, even when they are for charity events. I know because we’ve used shapes in charity events, and the times they were actually blogged were few. I get that. Bloggers get really attached to their shapes. Non-bloggers do, too! Even I was hesitant to try mesh for a long time because of the whole “Idonotwannachangemyshape” aspect of mesh. So, I get it, but it also made me really want to blog a shape from the event if one of the designers was generous enough to share them with the bloggers.

So, I’m stepping outside of my comfort zone to blog this shape from Anna’s Shapes. I actually think it’s a very cute shape, and obviously if I’ve always worn my own, I’m bound to be picky. It’s dramatically different from my own “style,” which I think is cool. I mean, if I am going to blog someone else’s shape, it may as well be one that steps outside the boundaries of my usual look!

I paired the shape with this skin from Al Vulo, which is also part of the One Voice event. The dining set is from Adoration Home & Garden, and it’s really cute. There are a variety of place setting options to choose from, and you can rezz food using the placemats. There’s also a pose that’s hilarious called “drunk” and I definitely recommend trying that one out. It’s animated, and a static picture just can’t do it justice, but I laughed really hard when I saw it! Here’s a prelude to that pose, though… I do love some white wine!

One Voice - Share

The dress is from Sleeping Koala, and will be available at the One Voice event. It’s so darn cute, but the back detail in particular is spectacular. I love detailed back work like this… and I definitely wanted to highlight Evie’s talent. I am so impressed by Ms. Evelyn Hartshon. She works so hard, and she’s so dedicated. Not just to her work as a designer, but just in general, in building an SL community and I really admire her for that! I paired Evie’s pretty dress with a gorgeous jewelry set from Sax Shepherd Designs.

One Voice - Stand Up

More soon from this event… and thank you to the designers who were generous enough to share their work with the bloggers. It does help to spread the word when we’re able to promote events in advance of them even opening!
