Homeward Bound

It’s been a while since I did a home blog post, so I have a few pics to share. I’m not feeling very chatty tonight… shocking, I know! So, I’m just gonna give ya the goods.

This beautiful bed from Kuro was for The Theme Park’s Vintage Romance edition, which comes to an end tomorrow at 11:59 pm SLT. I checked with Luana, though, and this will be available in her mainstore soon, too!

Vintage Dreams

I’ve blogged these recycled theater chairs from Junk before, but I just adore them, so I incorporated them into my living room again.

Bright Ideas

This is the loft space in the Trompe Loeil Sparrow Hill Lodge for Collabor88 for January. You have just a few days to go grab it (and lots of other goodies) at its discounted price. I wanted to make an artist’s loft.

The Artist's Loft

This new living room set from Sway’s comes in two color palettes, warm & cool. Plus, there’s a special Valentine’s Day version at a newer event called The Collage, so check that out, too. This is the cool version.

Don’t want it to end…

The hardest part of the holidays for me is when they end! I love the decorations, the lights… all the little things that make it magical. Of course, I understand it’s the limited time we use them that makes them so special, but it’s still always sad (for me) to see them go. I’ve had this pesky cold. Not enough to make me spend my days asleep, but it’s a distraction. So, I’ve been taking lots of pics and figured I’d blog some of them, finally, since right now I’m feeling pretty good.

First up… Christmas. On Christmas night I got to spend some quiet time with two friends. The munchkin and I were kind of sleepy, so we made our other friend finish wrapping presents courtesy of Kuro’s Wrapping Gifts prop set (at The Garden). I’m wearing PJs from FateWear and Isley is sleeping in the adorable Waiting For Santa sleeping bag set from O.M.E.N for Collabor88. The adorable dog is from Half+Deer for The Garden. The build is the gorgeous Trilby Dacha from Scarlet Creative, also at Collabor88.

Christmas Friends

Next up, this gorgeous sleigh from Pixel Mode Home for The Garden. There are multiple colors, but I liked the drama of the red & black. There are also Naughty (adult) and Nice (PG) versions, which made me giggle just a bit. It’s gorgeously detailed, and I don’t think this is limited to Christmas at all! I think you can use it all winter long, and you can go grab it at The Garden through January 10th! Especially since the blanket is texture change, making it more versatile. The ground blanket with champagne is included, too!

Sleigh

I have more pics to share, so here we go… this next one features Sway’s Wonderful Life living room set, which is also available at The Garden, as are the cute stockings from Barnesworth Anubis (they are one of the gacha items at this edition of the event). The strewn lights and boxes of Christmas decor are from Second Spaces, and the tree is also from Sway’s.

Christmas

While we were decorating, my naughty KittyCatS got into some mischief! The KittyCatS team really did an amazing job with these Naughty cats. The lights on them even blink, as you can see below. The tree skirt is from tarte. and is one of their gacha items for The Garden.

Naughty Kittens

This next collage features items from The Arcade, which has sadly ended. However, there are still yard sales (just do a search for Arcade yard sales in places), so if you want any of these things, and they aren’t in mainstores, you may be able to find them that way! The gorgeous dining room set is from tarte. and is another item from The Garden. The stockings in the dining room are from Dysfunctional Designs, and they are texture change. Also from Dysfunctional Designs is the cute Christmas tree photo collage on the mantle in the living room. The baking table, and much of the decor on it was from Pixel Mode’s Arcade set, and the hand mixer and tins are from Second Spaces Arcade set. The kitchen shelf was also an Arcade item, this time from Tres Blah.

Christmas Collage

This next pic features Cheeky Pea’s beautiful Yukon kitchen island, and is topped with lots of my Arcade goodies. Featured are items from Second Spaces, Tres Blah, Vespertine and Pixel Mode. If you’d like the name of anything specific, please ask! I normally would list it all, but I want to be sure I get this post done before the holidays are officially over (seeing as it’s New Year’s Day!).

Bake ALL the things!

I wish all of you a wonderful 2014. I want to especially say thank you to all the wonderful designers who have supported my blogging efforts, and to those of you take the time to read.

Getting my geek on

The Geeks ‘n’ Nerds Fair opened this week, and this is an event that every geek/nerd simply must visit! There is something for nerds and geeks of all types… and the build for the event is very cute and easy to navigate (and I say that as someone who gets lost at pretty much every event ever). I’m definitely a serious geek/nerd and usually walk around in a group tag that says “Proud Dork.” So this fair was just about custom made for me (and people like me!).

I’m wearing the jumper of a dress from SySy’s for this event, along with eyeliner from Mons that’s also at the Geeks ‘n’ Nerds Fair. My awesome boots are from fri.day. fri.day is a part of the Geeks ‘n’ Nerds fair, but these boots are a Shoetopia release! You still have a few days to head over to Shoetopia and grab all the gorgeous shoes. Remember, this is a charity event, so every designer has out at least one 100% donation item, and the charity, Soles 4 Souls is working to help, among others, the survivors of Typhoon Haiyan. This is a way you can do your own part to help a great cause, while having fun shopping, so do be sure to check it out before it ends on the 30th!

My Favorite Dorks

The build I used in these pics is the Neva Captain’s House from Scarlet Creative for the current round of Collabor88. It’s a really unique, quirky build and I fell in love with it the minute I saw it. I plan to take some more pics of it soon, but in the meantime, do take a minute to visit the demo at Collabor88! It’s a not-to-be-missed home for anyone who loves the unusual.

Most of the decor items are from the Geeks ‘n’ Nerds Fair. You will find the full credits at the bottom of this post, with the ones available at the fair tagged accordingly. My cute pose, complete with prop, is from Kuro In Motion. It’s not a fair item, but seemed appropriate for the post!

Dork Side Collage

To those who celebrate, have a wonderful Thanksgiving! More from me soon.

My Bungalow: Part 2

If you missed part 1 of this blog post, you can find it here. The Barnesworth Anubis Carraway Bungalow is so gorgeous, and because of how big it is I knew I’d need to break this down into two posts. So, without further ado, here is the final part. As always, please click through to Flickr and hover over the pics to see where each item is from. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask!

This house has two bathrooms. I left the upstairs bathroom as it is when you buy the house, so you can see what the bathrooms look like if you’d rather not retexture. However, in the downstairs bathroom I did a lot of tinting/retexturing. I call the upstairs bath the “rustic bath” because I decorated it with more old fashioned feeling furnishings, as you can see here.

The Rustic Bathroom

For the downstairs bathroom, I wanted a sense of luxury. So, while it still has a bit of a vintage feel (I tend to like vintage/rustic in home design/decor), it also has lots of lush amenities.

Where Dreams Happen

They say the kitchen is the heart of the home. I don’t know how true that is, but in SL I do love to have one! Here are some pics of the cozy kitchen I put together.

Kitchen Comforts

Bake ALL the things

The Carraway Bungalow has four bedrooms. I only photographed two. One of them was designed as a den, and the other as a guest room. Below is a collage of the den.

The Gathering Place

The guest room wound up being my favorite room in the house, and after that I struggled with what was going to be the master bedroom for weeks. I finally decided to just stop so I could blog everything else and transition to my autumn home. Here are the pics of the guest room.

Guest Room Collage

I had to make sure my KittyCatS made an appearance, so tucked into the nooks and crannies of this adorable cupboard bed from fri.day you will notice Meowzers and tiny Strawberry Milk.

Where cats rule

Finally, this spot was my absolute favorite in the entire house… it’s also a part of what I designed as the guest room, and I will end my blog post with this pic.

Corner For Rainy Days & Dreams

If you’re looking for a versatile home that is suitable for a family, I definitely recommend checking this one out. It’s a winner!

My Bungalow: Part 1

I fell in love with the Barnesworth Anubis Carraway Bungalow that was part of Collabor88 in August. It’s a big house, so it took me a while to decorate it! I have a LOT of pics for this house, so I decided to break it down into two posts.

I modified this house a good bit, in terms of textures. Some of the walls I just tinted, and some I used wallpaper on. Unlike some mesh houses, that was possible with this one. It took some trial and error, but it was a lot of fun to do. I like customizing houses, so that they feel more “me.” I never used to do this, but my BFF Rosa got me hooked, and now I love it.

So, here are the pics… or at least the first batch. I’ll try to keep my comments to a minimum. As always, please click through the pics to see them bigger in Flickr. You’ll also find notes on each pic with where each item is from. If I missed something (I hope not!) or you want more info, feel free to ask in the comments here or on Flickr, or IM me in world.

Autumn Daze

Porch

I have to say this… the Carraway comes with several gorgeous built in cabinets and shelves. The best part? They are all functional, meaning they open!

Mantle

I wanted to particularly point out the adorable Friends artwork seen in this next collage because it is an item from Sway’s for the current round of The Arcade, and you only have a few more days to go try to win it!

It's the little things

Live comfortably

This college shows the dining room built in, which I photographed with some doors open, so you could get a better idea for what I mean about what an awesome detail this is.

And everyone was invited

The second post will be coming soon, so keep an eye out for it!

Can you keep a secret?

This short story is for the Chapter Two of The Writer’s Block. It is possibly NSFW, but I tend to be prudish in that regard. Yeah, yeah snort all you want. 😛

Too long to read? You can listen here instead.

***

It began with a simple question, on a chilly autumn afternoon in Central Park.

“Can you keep a secret?”

She whispered the question in my ear, her dark curls brushing my shoulder as she leaned in close to me. I breathed in deeply, and the smell of her perfume overwhelmed my senses. I nodded, afraid to speak, afraid to hope her secret was the same as mine.

“It’s not something I can tell you. I need to show you.”

Her teeth nipped my earlobe. I shivered, though I wasn’t cold. She moved on the blanket we sat upon and faced me. Her lips, stained the color of ripe strawberries, parted. She leaned in, and claimed my mouth with her own.

That is how it began. With a whispered question and passionate kiss, my heart was hers. I knew it wouldn’t end well, but oh, I’d longed for that moment for so many years. We’d been friends since high school. Over the years, I’d watched her flirt with so many men and women, and always felt a pang of envy. Even when she broke their hearts in the end (she always broke their hearts), I longed to be in their shoes.

I never deluded myself into thinking I could be different, that somehow I’d be the person she’d been searching for all these years. I lost myself in her molten brown eyes, soaked in the scent of her long, thick hair, which was as wild and untamed as she. I let myself be engulfed by the fire that for years I’d fought to contain. When we kissed, she murmured my name against my lips. “Juliet,” she’d say in her husky voice, “touch me. Please.” She never needed to ask twice.

For a few tempestuous moments, she was mine. We fought as much as we loved. Her moods were often volatile, and always mercurial.

She wrote me letters… such beautiful, romantic, passionate letters. She’d tie them up in ribbons scented with her perfume, and leave them on my pillows. I’d find a piece of my favorite chocolate slipped into my lunch bag, with a romantic or silly note. Once, after a bad day at work I found a rose tucked under the wiper blade of my car. She made me smile. She made me cry. She made me whole, and then broke me in half.

She made me crazy.

I kept waiting for the end. It had to come eventually. It always did with her. I wasn’t special, or different. Was I? As days turned into months, and months into a year, I began to wonder. Maybe this time she wasn’t going to run away. Maybe I could hold on to her. I never dreamed I would someday wish for the end.

But I did.

Nearly two years had passed since she asked the question. We’d lived together for most of the time, and we were nearly inseparable. Funny thing about fire… it requires oxygen and room to breathe in order to flourish. I began to feel suffocated. She was jealous. We fought more, and loved less.

“I love you, Juliet.” She said it every day. For months, I didn’t believe her. Maybe that was part of the problem. Sometimes I even laughed when she said it. Oh, how cruel we can be to the ones who love us most.

I loved her, too. I’d loved her from a distance for my entire adult life, and several years before that. Was it enough?

No.

I never wrote her letters. I told myself I wasn’t the type, but I think I always feared putting my feelings for her into words. Paper burns, and my emotions for her were so hot, so intense. I was sure the paper would turn to ash beneath the pen.

It was June. It was hot in the city. New York in June can be brutally humid and disgusting. A thunderstorm without rain raged overhead. She wanted to know where I’d been. I hadn’t been anywhere. I’d never have cheated. I wasn’t the one with the history of cheating. But somehow she seemed to forget that if either of us should be insecure, it was me.

I was exhausted. I’d spent the past two hours stuck in traffic. The heat had made me cranky, and our AC was on the fritz (it was always on the fritz). I tied my hair back in a ponytail, and refused to make eye contact with her. All I wanted was to throw on a tank top and shorts and pour myself a giant glass of chilled white wine. I ignored her. I had learned long ago it was the best way to diffuse a fight with her.

But I was so very tired.

She apologized, and took my hand. I let her lead me to bed. I already knew it was the last time I would. Maybe that was unfair of me, but I wanted one more memory. I wanted one last time to feel my body melt into hers, to leave this plane of mortal existence for the seemingly endless heaven our bodies created when they came together.

Can you keep a secret?

Sometimes I still hear her voice whisper that question, and the pain of losing her – of leaving her – is as fresh as that brutally hot June day I walked out. I didn’t say a word. I waited for her to leave for work. She kissed me a passionate goodbye (she knew only passion). I returned the kiss eagerly, as if nothing was wrong. I packed my bags, thankful the apartment was in her name. Ironic, since that had once, in the not distant past, terrified me, back when I expected her to be the one to end it. On her pillow I left a note. I had written, “I can’t do this anymore. Love, J.” I don’t know why I signed it love. It seems to callous to have done so, but I loved her. Oh, how I loved her. I walked out, and didn’t turn back.

We haven’t spoken since.

Sometimes I dream of running into her somewhere, though I’ve been told she left Manhattan after I deserted her. Sometimes I dream I never left, and that we’re still together.

On these days, I slip into the lingerie she most loved me to wear, and I stretch out on the bed. I surround myself with her letters. So many letters. The ribbons still faintly smell of her perfume, the one that always made me crazy.

I’m surrounded by memories.

Surrounded by memories

I live daily with my secrets. The secret of knowing that I made the biggest mistake of my life that hot June day when I abandoned her. The secret of knowing I will always love her, and that I walked away from her because that frightened me. I know I’ll keep this secret the rest of my life. The only one I could ever share it with will never speak to me again. I am alone with only memories to comfort me.
