Electric Youth

I feel like the era of my tweens and early teens (aka late 80s/early 90s) is suddenly super popular again. From the recent debut of the Rewind event, with it’s 90’s theme, to some of the fun color combos at various events (like Uber), it just feels a bit surreal.

So maybe it’s not surprising that I found myself feeling a big nostalgic, and that before long said nostalgia led me to listen to Electric Youth, which came out in 1989. This iconic Debbie Gibson album inspired a line of cosmetics and a fragrance, all of which I – naturally – had. See, I was fascinated by Debbie Gibson. She wrote all of the songs on her album, and she also produced six of the ten tracks on the album entirely on her own. It was only with her first album that I had learned a strange lesson… not all singers are songwriters. Up until Out of the Blue got a lot of attention for having been written by a 16 year-old, it never dawned on me that singers didn’t also write their song lyrics or music. This is undoubtedly the result of being a songwriter’s daughter; my dad was in bands my entire childhood, and they wrote everything they did that wasn’t a cover and my dad was the primary lyricist. So it kind of never occurred to me that other people didn’t write their own songs.

At any rate, this revelation made Debbie Gibson a hero of mine. I was six years younger than her, but she was doing amazing things. Then she became Eponine in Les Mis (“On My Own” was “my” song; I sang it in 8th grade and related deeply to it), and that just sealed it for me. Debbie Gibson was totally amazing.

So, this was my tribute to that time in my life… a skort (!) and chunky plastic ring from Decoy, a cropped t-shirt with the word “dazed” from Tee*Fy at N21, some curly pigtails and blunt bangs, brand new from Truth and available at the current round of Uber. Uber has a brand new layout to help make shopping easier., and a great big bubble of pink gum, thanks to Catwa. Oh, and the perfect 90s-esque photo backdrop courtesy of Mons! I swear I know someone with framed prints that looked like this wall.

Pop Sugar

I just got the Catwa (bento) Kimberly head, as a birthday gift from a dear friend. I chose Kimberly over Catya and Lilo, Catwa’s other two heads (another one, Lona, is either newly out or about to be released) neither of which felt very “me,” even with shape changes. But Kimberly does! It’s very cute and works well with fuller lips and larger eyes. I am featuring some items from the February Powder Pack here. This skin applier is Kelly, from Amara. I wasn’t familiar with Amara but I loved this applier. That’s one of the fun things about these subscription boxes. You get to try out some stores you don’t know! I’m wearing the Powder Pack eyeliner/shadow by DeeTaleZ, which was tintable, so I made it this very 90s teal shade to match my hair. And the lipgloss is from Pink Fuel’s Powder Pack release. My lashes are also from Powder Pack, by Bold & Beauty. I had some trouble adjusting mesh eyes to fit in my Catwa head (and unlike the LeLutka heads, you must use mesh eyes). While Catwa’s heads come with rigged eyes, I wanted more options. Ultimately, the eyes I found easiest to adjust to my shape were from theSkinnery’s Palermo collection. These also have an OMEGA applier version, as well as system eyes. Oh and the adorable moles are another Powder Pack release, from okbye!

Electric Youth

If you missed the Powder Pack you can buy it later, but please note that the original price is $L1500 and after the price is L$3000 so it’s worth it if you love makeup and skins! Plus, there is going to be a LeLutka version starting later this month… now I just have to figure out which version I want! Gah!

Avatar In A Box Challenge

So, I read Berry’s blog post where she participated in a challenge presented by Vanessa Blaylock called Avatar In A Box. It’s inspired by a cool, real life art installation, and as soon as I saw it, I knew what I had to do.

I just had to be me.

You see, I regularly wear boxes in SL. I also frequently wear houses, or entire folders, or attach things instead of deleting them and go flying across my parcel to the object. Yes, even in SL, I am a world class klutz. It’s okay. It’s part of my charm. 😀 In fact, this morning I was gifted a Trompe Loeil giftcard. And I was wearing the box within seconds of it landing in my inventory, and I can’t even tell you HOW it happened. I’d have taken a pic of that for this, but it was on my head and I didn’t want to hide my pretty skin from Glam Affair for Collabor88 or the adorable hair by Tableau Vivant.

So, without further ado… my challenge pic. This is totally raw, as I uploaded it straight from SL to Flickr.

Avatar In A Box Challenge

This is a fun challenge, that will undoubtedly result in lots of creative, intriguing entries. Definitely one to follow, even if you don’t participate yourself!

Oy with the poodles already!

Collabor88 is open with an awesome new theme that heavily features poodles! I knew as soon as I saw the MishMish poodles I had to do a picture with them.

I’m not going to blather on today. Just pics, credits and the link you need for the goods!

Oy with the poodles already!

So many poodles! I do want to say one quick thing about that poodle purse on the floor. It’s from Schadenfreude and I’ve never owned an SL purse with so many options, both for carrying and rezzing. It’s pretty freaking fabulous. It also comes in lots of color varieties and there are matching shoes available (I’m wearing them) which include both SLink and non-SLink versions.

Oodles of poodles

What to do with all these poodles?

The Hoarder’s Hideaway

This is going to be short and sweet, but I wanted to blog this adorable bit of newness from fri.day home for tomorrow’s round of The Neighbourhood. The Hideaway comes in two versions. One (the one featured here) includes lights. The bedspread is texture change, with multiple options to help you perfectly match your decor.

I decided to take advantage of this adorable little hideaway to show off some of my Arcade stash. But don’t get any ideas… these puppies (and cats, pwnies, and otther animals) are all mine! The chibi cats are from Schadenfreude. The “pwnies” are from Silentsparrow. My pups are Intrigue. The chipmunk is from MishMish and the carved deer is from HalfDeer. If you click through to Flickr you can see the names of each of these little critters, should you desire to add any of ’em to your collection. Oh, and my cute flats are SLink add ons from Intrigue for The Arcade, too!

The hoarder's hideaway

My hair is also from The Arcade, by Exile… and this utterly gorgeous skin is from Glam Affair, and also for The Arcade.

A bit of autumn candy

Be sure to stop by fri.day tomorrow (September 7th) to grab this gorgeous and adorable hangout for just L$200!

Last call for Collabor88

A new round of Collabor88 will open this weekend, so be sure to go down and grab the many, many birthday goodies before the current 2nd anniversary edition ends! Here are some of the amazing things you can grab.

This “dress” from Tee*fy is actually two pieces, allowing you to mix and match. They are sold separately, so you can buy the color combos that most appeal to you. I love the top, with it’s plunging neckline. My adorable peacock – whom I named Polly, of course – is from MishMish and there are multiple versions and color options. The version I have in this pic is an attachment you actually wear. Be warned, though. You may die of cute when you remove the peacock and it says “I’m going to miss you, (your name here)!”

My jewelry is from Noodles, and is also at Collabor88. This set is named in honor of Millie Gears, who was a friend to so many in the SL community, and whom we sadly recently lost far too soon. It’s a beautiful tribute to her.

The desert calls to me

Another Collab item I fell hard for is this hair from Monso. I believe it has materials enabled, but alas if I were to attempt to use the official viewer I might have a breakdown. Still, even without materials, it is absolutely stunning. I love the depth of the textures on this hair, and the style is just utterly adorable. My skin is also utterly adorable, and it’s the new full release of Cho from Essences. Cho was released with brand new, stunning skin tones. I am wearing Peche. I don’t think I’ve ever owned a cuter skin than Cho. I feel slightly exotic and beyond cute when I wear it. And admittedly, a bit young. Which, let’s face it, ain’t a bad thing.

I wanted a slightly exotic setting for these pics, so I went over to Izzie’s Mainstore. Izzie always done an amazing job with her sim, and it is currently set to look like an African desert, and I just loved this little house I found there.

I am not sure when Collabor88 will close for setup for the next round, so hurry and head on over! This is truly a not-to-be-missed edition.

I know I’ve been a bit quiet lately. I was battling some feeling yucky in RL, and I also just took over another event in SL, so I’ve been a bit busy. But I’m feeling better, and I am gearing up to show off all of my wonderful Arcade goodies, so stay tuned!

Happy weekend!

fri.day @ Pose Fair 2013!

It’s been a while! Traveling, sick, net issues… but all are better now, or better enough! So, without further ado, here are some of the offerings from fri.day for Pose Fair 2013.

First, fri.day has some awesome new individual pose packs, profile.pose & sweet.sour. Below you can get a glimpse of the profile.pose pack. I model poses 3 & 5 of this pack.

Solitary

That’s 3! My adorable tank is a new top from Zanzibar CreationZ. I am utterly in love with it, and not just because it shares my name and is purple! It comes with an awesome hud and has multiple design choices. I love hud controlled clothes. They keep the (ever increasing) clutter of my inventory down just a bit. Plus, they make it easy to change looks without changing clothes entirely!

The skin is Ramona from Al Vulo, one of the recent TDR Fusion versions. Eyes are from IKON, and the gorgeous pants are from Elate! I really like these pants because they are casual, yet a bit dressier than your usual jeans with their trouser-esque cut. My cute flats are from Tee*Fy.

Here’s a shot using profile.pose 5.

Sparkle

The sweet.sour pack is a really fun one. It’s sassy and flirty. This next pic is sweet.sour 3, and it’s my favorite pose in the pack. It’s great for sassy profile pics! I am dressed in various items from FaMESHed’s April round, including this saucy little sundress from Valentina E. Couture, the new Truth release for FaMESHed, and one of the stunning Maxi Gossamer sets.

Feigned Shyness

Also for Pose Fair, fri.day home has a new release… monkey bars! This prop is FUN. I decided that even though I was all gussied up, you’re never too old (or too dressed up) to play! The adorable swingset you see in the background is from What Next and will be featured in another post soon.

Never too old to play

I’ll have more from Pose Fair later today or tomorrow. It closes on Sunday (April 14th) so be sure you get there and grab all the goodies before then!
