Bandana Day 2016!

I am posting this much later than I’d hoped to… had some technical issues earlier with my internet sucking. BUT you do still have a bit four hours left to Hair Fair 2016, so you’re not too late to go grab some of the amazing releases, gifts and your very own Bandana Day bandana. Mine was created by the sweet and talented Izzie Button. Isn’t it adorable? Remember, the people who take the time to do these bandanas are giving their time and proceeds entirely to Wigs For Kids. It’s truly a great cause, and something I am always honored to participate in as a blogger. My necklace is coming to FaMESHed tomorrow and is by Cae. My Catwa mesh head Destiny and DeeTaleZ applier Patricia will both available at the Mesh Body Addicts Fair, also starting tomorrow. My lashes are Catwa appliers, which are also from Izzie’s. They were a recent Fifty Linden Friday item, but trust me… they’re worth paying full price for if you missed them!

Bandana Day 2016

My cute bikini top is another in Neve’s recently released swimwear collection, and my sexy jean shorts are from Just Because. The adorable collie pup by my side is available at The Epiphany, from Jian. The flip flops are by Reign, and as of this posting they are still only L$75 at the mainstore. Finally, I am wearing the newly updated Freya body from Belleza. All of the bodies – Freya, Venus and Isis – have been newly updated. I’m going to link to some YouTube videos created by the Belleza team below that explains the updates. But there’s also a fabulous post about it on the Mesh Body Addicts website!

Boardwalk Treat

Possibly the most exciting thing for many of you will be that you can now buy JUST the body you want. While the fatpack is still available, each body is also being sold individually. Definitely watch the first video if you’re interested in just one body type. It helps to explain it all really well. The new hud is really slick and sleek, and you can get further detail on that in the second video.

I stand for peace…

When I first heard of the “I stand for peace” challenge presented by The White Canvas Gallery, I have to admit… my tendency towards cynicism won over. My first, honest thought? I’d love to stand for peace, but my legs are going to get awfully tired. But being me is complicated. Because even though I can be cynical (though I tend to prefer to think I’m just realistic), I can also be idealistic. So, I have said it before and I’ll say it now: I’m a realistic idealist. I can recognize when I’m being idealistic, but I refuse to give up the idea that there’s a place for idealism in this world.

I really like this quote, and not just because I consider Sara Teasdale to be one of the most underrated poets in history.

I make the most of all that comes and the least of all that goes. ~Sara Teasdale

I like to think I manage to do this most of the time. My life has been interesting and difficult. Full of love, but also challenges. However, I like to believe that, when faced with hardships, I find a way to make the best of a bad situation. To find the proverbial silver lining. So, even though I fear that we’re living in a time that will face far more violence before we achieve anything akin to peace, I also think we can find ways to look for peace from within, to take strength from the stories of others; of those who survive, of those who saved, of those who died so others might live. We can see the beauty that is always here, and remember the wise words of Dumbledore (via JK Rowling): Happiness can be found even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light.

It seemed fitting to blog this challenge using one of the gorgeous hairs you can find at Hair Fair 2016. I feel that this event is an example of the best of humanity, of the goodness and love that exists in this world, and I mean the real one as well as our virtual one. Because, after all, this event benefits real life children. Also appropriate, I felt, was to use something currently available at The Epiphany – these adorable butterflies from Cubic Cherry Creations. For if ever the world needed another epiphany, the time would be now.

My hair is from Mina. I loved the windblown feel of this hair, and I’ve always been a huge fan of Mina’s red shades. My adorable capri pants are by Just Because for N21 and I’m wearing the N21 exclusive color, which will not be available when the event ends! The tank top I’m wearing is one of Neve’s summer offerings. My sandals are from fri.day, and fri.day has moved to a new location, so be sure to update your LM!

I stand for peace

Now I have to talk about this gorgeous new mesh head from Catwa. Bibi has such a sweet, youthful face. It felt perfect for this dreamy, peaceful look I wanted. I paired it with Glam Affair’s Gabriela applier, which is part of the Gacha Guardians event. If you’ve been looking for a mesh head with a young, soft vibe, definitely go demo this one. Bibi is a basic head, which means you can get the static version of it for just $L900. You can check out this image, which explains all of the various options available on Catwa heads.

Sweet Bibi

If you haven’t done the “I stand for peace” challenge yet, consider it. It’s simple, but powerful. And I was nominated by the lovely Saffie to do it, so really… I had to.

Bandana Day 2015

Hair Fair 2015 closes tonight, at 11:59 pm SLT. Today is Bandana Day. If you haven’t gone to Hair Fair yet, or you didn’t get a bandana for Bandana Day, definitely consider going and grabbing one. They’re only L$50 each, they’re 100% donation items and there are a lot of cool options. Mine is from L+N and it’s called Liberty. It came with the torch (my SL sister Isley Oodles made me the stone tablet prop, and my husband made me the pose; neither are for sale anywhere) and I thought it was a really neat idea. Both from a creative perspective, but also because it felt like an empowering thing to me. I think of how we put so much value on hair, particularly on women’s hair, and really why? It’s just another form of idealized beauty. Not that I don’t have fun with hair in SL, because of course I do… and it would definitely be traumatic for me if I ever lost my RL hair because I love it. But at the end of the day, part of that is just another aspect of what we’re conditioned to be used to, what we’re conditioned to find attractive. And that’s all very interesting to me from a sociological/anthropological standpoint. But enough geeking out.

The bottom line here is… Wigs For Kids is a fabulous charity helping children who’ve lost their hair due to illness or medical treatments. Whether those kids choose bandanas or wigs, this charity helps empower them and give them a chance to have something they’ve not chosen to lose. So go buy a bandana, and wear it for the rest of the day! It’s only a few hours!

Freedom

The necklace and earrings I have on are from Cae, for the brand new monthly fantasy event Illusion Point. My gorgeous skin is the newest face from Glam Affair, Fiona, available at Uber. These stunning eyes are from Buzzeri’s new release at N21. Here’s a closer look.

Coming soon to a Fair(e) near you!

There are two events opening this weekend. One is Hair Fair, which celebrates it’s 10th AMAZING year of raising money for Wigs For Kids, with every transaction donating all or part of the proceeds (signs will tell you how much) to this fabulous charity. Ten years, guys. How incredibly awesome is that ? Hair Fair opens July 11th at 12 am SLT (give or take a few minutes). If you are anxious to demo without lag, or just get a head start on making your wish list, you can join the demo group to save all the demo goodness! I highly recommend that, as it helps speed things along and it’s just fun! It’s a great way to discover new stores, too.

Copy and paste the following into local chat and click the link to join the demo group: secondlife:///app/group/2e30d166-f3e5-e2de-ff72-b3da2d06ded2/about

You can find out more about Hair Fair, and get maps and slurls (once open) on the Hair Fair blog.

To learn more about Wigs For Kids, visit their website. Also, while at Hair Fair 2015, be sure to grab one of the amazing bandanas created for Bandana Day. Bandana Day is July 26th (also the final day of Hair Fair 2015), and for this day we honor the courage and strength of kids (and adults) fighting conditions that result in hair loss by donning a bandana. Bandana Day bandanas are created by SL residents and 100% of the proceeds go to Wigs For Kids. There are a lot of amazing, creative options (I can’t wait to show you the one I picked!), and they’re only L$50 a piece and for a great cause.

I am wearing one of Exile’s Hair Fair releases and my fellow blogger is wearing one of Elikatira’s. We’re also both wearing necklaces by Cae that will be available starting July 12th at this year’s Wizarding Faire. This event was one of my favorites ever when it debuted in 2013, so I’m truly thrilled it’s coming back. In fact, it inspired me to start reading the books again! And we’re both wearing outfits you can find at the current Rustic themed edition of Uber.

Summer Friends

It’s going to be a jam-packed weekend of awesome with both of these amazing events opening, so be sure you don’t miss out!

Hair Fair is HERE!

Hair Fair is one of my favorite events of the year. Not only is it fun to go try all the new hairs, Hair Fair benefits an incredible charity called Wigs For Kids. You can read all about Hair Fair 2014 on the official event blog.

As with previous years, Hair Fair 2014 features a clean, easy-to-navigate layout. Since I get lost so easily at events, this is something I’ve always really appreciated. I feel the event organizers go to great lengths to try to make it a fun environment that is as low lag as possible. But this year’s build is just so, so cute on top of all that other good stuff. I had to snap a couple of pics. As in previous years, you’ll find redelivery terminals scattered around the sim, in case lag gets the better of you or you accidentally decline an offer.

Hair Fair 2014 2

Hair Fair 2014 1

For my first Hair Fair 2014 post, I chose one of Ploom’s new styles, Carrie. I love the sleek, somewhat retro feel to this hairstyle. It’s so elegant! I paired it with a sunset colored dress from SySy’s, which goes so nicely with my adorable fri.day wedge heels available at The Seasons Story.

Summer sunset

My beautiful skin is Essences Galadriel, which is also available at The Seasons Story in the new skin tones (which I just love). My jewelry is from Cae, for The Dreaming Tree, so hurry… you can still grab this set for a discount for the rest of today!

The dirigible plums need sun

You will find Ploom on the Brunette sim at Hair Fair. The Hair Fair blog has a fabulously informative post about this year’s event. It breaks down each of the four sims by stores and also features a handy map!

Collab meets Hair Fair

I was in the middle of shooting pics of an utterly adorable outfit, skin and some accessories I snagged at Collabor88 when the lovely Irischka Hotshot of Iren passed me her Hair Fair pack. I fell so in love that I changed hairstyles mid shoot. It’s actually appropriate because the hair I had been wearing, in the pic below, is one of Exile’s Hair Fair 2012 styles!

Snow Red

I utterly love this dress from Tres Blah for Collabor88. I may have to buy some more colors before the round ends in August. If you haven’t gotten to the July round yet, you really need to because this round is absolutely superb. It might be my favorite ever! I have lots of goodies, far more than just in this post, so stay tuned for more Collab/Hair Fair combos from me in the coming week!

I thought this Iren hair was so wonderfully romantic, and it fit so nicely with the Midsummer Night’s Dream theme Collab has happening this round. A Midsummer Night’s Dream happens to be my favorite Shakespearean play, btw, so it’s not really a surprise I loved this round so. These shoes are SLink add ons from BOOM, and oh, they’re lovely! I knew when I saw the blue dress with the red belt I had to have it, and the red shoes. I have to confess, I feel a bit like a redheaded modern day Snow White in this outfit.

Collab Meets Hair Fair

I have been a fan of Essences skins for a while now, but I think the one they did for Collabor88 is my favorite one yet! Her name is Cho, and she’s just utterly adorable. I will be honest, since I am not one to deny my SL vanity anyway (hell, it’s in my blog tagline)… I kept saying “OMG I AM SO CUTE!” whilst wearing this skin.

Essences - Cho (Collabor88)

Just as I finished shooting this look, I was given previews of Miamai’s Hair Fair releases. This one caught my eye because of how dramatic it is, so I decided to throw it on and strike a pose to show y’all. I was apparently too lazy to put on a shirt, though. Don’t get too excited… I may be shirtless, but I’m still relatively decent! This hair is really more about the hat, and you can even hide the hair so it’s a unisex style. There’s a hud and you can change the color of the ribbon and the beads, too. It’s a versatile style! Though you can’t see the gorgeous face, my skin is one of Glam Affair’s Collabor88 releases (a better view to come soon). It’s a stunning skin, and you’ll definitely not want to miss out on it!

In Profile

Hair Fair 2013 comprises of four sims full of wonderful hair goodness! You can check out Seraphim’s gallery here, to help you with your shopping, or you can join the Hair Fair Demo Group in world to get demos to help you make choices without the inevitable lag of a crowded event. Hair Fair’s organizers have done a lot to help reduce lag, but please be patient and remember that any crowded SL event will have some degree of lag! Also, please remember this is a charity event, one that benefits children who have lost their hair due to medical conditions/treatments. Visit the Wigs For Kids website to learn more about this awesome charity.

More from Hair Fair, Collab and other events soon!
